Swiss pilot Bertrand Piccard is living his dream - a flight across America - and he's doing it without a drop of fuel.

Piloting the Solar Impulse, a gangly sun-powered airplane, Piccard flew 650 miles from San Francisco to Phoenix last weekend. The flight in a plane with the wingspan of a jumbo jet and the weight of a car took nearly 19 hours.

It was the first leg of a coast-to-coast journey that will make its next stop at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. Weather permitting, Piccard is scheduled to take off early Tuesday on the 885-mile Phoenix-to-DFW flight.

After spending about a week in DFW spreading the gospel about clean energy, Piccard and fellow Swiss pilot Andre Borschberg will alternate flying the experimental single-seat plane to St. Louis and then Washington, D.C., before completing the journey in New York City.

In Cooked, Michael Pollan explores the previously uncharted territory of his own kitchen. Here, he discovers the enduring power of the four classical elements-fire, water, air, and earth-to transform the stuff of nature into delicious things to eat and drink. Apprenticing himself to a succession of culinary masters, Pollan learns how to grill with fire, cook with liquid, bake bread, and ferment everything from cheese to beer. In the course of his journey, he discovers that the cook occupies a special place in the world, standing squarely between nature and culture. Both realms are transformed by cooking, and so, in the process, is the cook.

Hero Student Goes Off On Bad Teacher After Getting Kicked Out of Class

Fed up with being given yet another unimaginative packet of worksheets to mindlessly fill out in lieu of an actual lesson, one high school student from Duncanville, Texas, tells his teacher as much, and is kicked out for it.

But on his way out of Mrs. Phung's world history class, the teen, identified only as Jeff, decides to go all-in with a rousing rant for the ages.

"You want kids to come into your class? You want them to get excited for this? You gotta come in here and make them excited," Jeff tells his apathetic teacher. "You want a kid to change and start doing better? You gotta touch his freakin' heart."

Bernanke, Blower of Bubbles?

By PAUL KRUGMAN

Bernanke, Blower of Bubbles?

By PAUL KRUGMAN

Bubbles can be bad for your financial health - and bad for the health of the economy, too. The dot-com bubble of the late 1990s left behind many vacant buildings and many more failed dreams. When the housing bubble of the next decade burst, the result was the greatest economic crisis since the 1930s - a crisis from which we have yet to emerge.

So when people talk about bubbles, you should listen carefully and evaluate their claims - not scornfully dismiss them, which was the way many self-proclaimed experts reacted to warnings about housing.

Let's Free Congress. com

Money wins Elections is an excellent, scrolling infographic that illustrates how money corrupts the American legislative process, showing that time and again, Congress has voted the way that the big money told it to, against the prevailing popular opinion. It's all in support of the American Anti-corruption Act, and it was created by Tony Chu for part of his MFA thesis project.
