Michael Moore: 5 Ways for OWS to Keep Sticking it to Capitalist Crooks as Winter Comes

rockwall

There are many ways to keep Occupy going through the winter months.

And now it is winter. Wall Street rejoices, hoping that the change of seasons will mean a change in our spirit, our commitment to stop them.

They couldn't be more wrong. Have they not heard of Washington and the troops at Valley Forge? The Great Flint Sit-Down Strike in the winter of 1936-37? The Michigan Wolverines crushing Ohio State in the 1950 Blizzard Bowl? When it comes to winter, it is the time historically when the people persevere and the forces of evil make their retreat!

Sen. Bernie Sanders: Corporations Are Not People and They Shouldn't Be Allowed to Buy Our Elections

rockwall

Bottom line: Corporations should not be able to go into their treasuries and spend millions and millions of dollars on a campaign in order to buy elections.

The Constitution of this country has served us well, but when the Supreme Court says that attempts by the federal government and states to impose reasonable restrictions on campaign ads are unconstitutional, our democracy is in grave danger. That is why I have introduced a resolution in the Senate calling for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Think Rick Perry's Collapsing Campaign is Funny? The Joke's On You, Texas

rockwall

Rick Perry is collapsing faster than a $10 tent in a hurricane. He's a house of cards built of nothing but one-eyed jackasses. He's the punchline to every Aggie joke ever told.

By the time this column is printed, he'll probably be trailing in the polls to Newt Gingrich's jowls. Or maybe he'll have given himself a swirly on national television.

Yup, Rick Perry is a national laughingstock. His poll numbers-just 4 percent support among GOP voters, according to one mid-November survey-are approaching Dick Cheney territory.

For Texans who never bought into Perry's, um, uh ... thing ... the last two months have been pure schadenfreude. You just can't help yourself, right? Watching Gov. Goodhair's 27-year electoral win streak melt away under the klieg lights during debates with such luminaries as Rick Santorum and Herman Cain is simply great fun.

NPR Can't Find Millionaire Job Creators

rockwall

We Must Challenge The Myth That Miniscule Tax on Super Rich Stymies Job Creation

Remember back when Republicans began their assault on the inheritance tax years ago? GOP wordsmith Frank Luntz renamed the inheritance tax the "death tax" and Republicans proclaimed that family farmers would lose their farms if the "death tax" was not reduced or repealed. Just one problem: when put to the test, Republicans could not produce a single family farmer who had lost a farm due to the inheritance tax. This family farmer was an invention of myth and legend.

Oops! He did it again. Frank Luntz renamed the vulture capitalist investor class "small business job creators" and Tea-Publicans proclaimed that raising taxes on the über-rich investor class will be a job killer for "small business job creators." Just one problem: when put to the test, Tea-Publicans have been unable to produce a single millionaire "small business job creator" invented from myth and legend. Failing a put-up-or-shut-up challenge:

Stephanie Miller riffs on the right

rockwall

The last time many Floridians heard from Stephanie Miller was in 2009, when WINZ (940-AM) switched formats, going from South Florida's only progressive-talk station to its third sports-talk station. Miller's syndicated radio show, The Stephanie Miller Show, had been the morning-drive-time program on the previous format of the station, which had drawn a 1 rating in its final month. In layman's terms, that 1 rating put the station about in the middle of all the stations in South Florida in terms of ratings - not great, but not bad. After the switch to sports talk, the station lost half its audience, dropping from a 1 to a .5. Two and a half years later, the station's most recent rating was ... .5, which puts it near the bottom of all the stations in Florida and far below the other two sports-talk stations.

Clear Channel to Replace Green960, San Francisco's Only AM Progressive Talk Station, With Glenn Beck, Other RWers as Election Year Begins

rockwall

The only progressive AM radio talk station, Green960-KKGN, in one of the nation's most liberal cities, San Francisco, is being taken off the AM dial by radio behemoth Clear Channel Communications, Inc. --- a media conglomerate now owned by Mitt Romney's Bain Capital, LLC --- at the beginning of the 2012 Presidential election year. Adding insult to injury for progressives in the Bay Area, the 960 slot on the dial is being replaced by Clear Channel with the likes of Glenn Beck, Fox News Radio's John Gibson and other radical Rightwing talkers, according to a press release [PDF] issued by the media giant last week, touting, in somewhat Orwellian terms, their "goal of expanding talk radio in San Francisco."

In today's economy, it's vital that we support the companies, products, and brands that have equal workplace practices for the LGBT community. As you look for that perfect pair of shoes or a great gift for a loved one this holiday season, you can use the information in this guide to help make your shopping decisions.

Our guide is a product of HRC's groundbreaking Corporate Equality Index. When we started the CEI a decade ago, 319 companies participated voluntarily. Now that's doubled. The CEI has transformed the American workplace by redefining the norm for how all companies treat LGBT workers and their families - which couldn't be more important in a country where you can still be fired in most states for being LGBT.

When you choose to buy from companies that demonstrate their commitment to LGBT equality in the workplace, you're helping grow and accelerate this important transformation.

Depression and Democracy

by Paul Krugman

NYTimes

It's time to start calling the current situation what it is: a depression. True, it's not a full replay of the Great Depression, but that's cold comfort. Unemployment in both America and Europe remains disastrously high. Leaders and institutions are increasingly discredited. And democratic values are under siege.

On that last point, I am not being alarmist. On the political as on the economic front it's important not to fall into the "not as bad as" trap. High unemployment isn't O.K. just because it hasn't hit 1933 levels; ominous political trends shouldn't be dismissed just because there's no Hitler in sight.

And Now For Something Completely Predictable

War with Iran

 By Terry Jones

 rockwall

December 07, 2011 "The Age" -- In the 14th century there were two pandemics. One was the Black Death, the other was the commercialisation of warfare. Mercenaries had always existed, but under Edward III they became the mainstay of the English army for the first 20 years of what became the Hundred Years War.

Then, when Edward signed the Treaty of Bretigny in 1360 and told his soldiers to stop fighting and go home, many of them didn't have any homes to go to. They were used to fighting, and that's how they made their money. So they simply formed themselves into freelance armies, aptly called ''free companies'', that proceeded around France pillaging, killing and raping.

Republicans And Democrats Divided On TV Favorites

rockwall

Everyone knows PBS is run by a bunch of anti-establishment liberals. The top programmers there would rather spend their days occupying Wall Street or picketing Glenn Beck's studio. So much so, they'd give up the chance to slide more subliminal messages about raising taxes into episodes of "American Experience."

Yet, they don't have the luxury of giving up their huge government-supplied salaries. Otherwise, they wouldn't be able to keep their kids in private schools or trick-out their Volvos.

Yet, even as some right-wingers would cut all federal funding for the Pr
