Free Mitt Romney by Paul Krugman NYTimes

Sometimes I find myself feeling sorry for Mitt Romney. No, seriously. In another time and place, he might have been respected as an effective technocrat - a smart guy valued (although probably not loved) for his ability to get things done. In fact, that's kind of how it worked when he was governor of Massachusetts, a decade ago.

Texas ACLU Texas prisons are no place for children.

Last July, a federal judge ordered the Obama administration to release refugee children who were being held in conditions that no child should have to suffer. In an attempt to keep the kids locked up in family detention centers in Karnes and Dilley, the administration has asked the State of Texas to license these two private prisons as "child care facilities."

Tell your local paper that Governor Abbott is wrong for keeping children behind bars...  http://is.gd/IXt8sH

"Dumber" Is Not a Legitimate Strategy for Texas Schools. Dumber Is Just Dumber. by Jim Schutze

Whatever you think is wrong with lazy stupid modern equivalency journalism - "This guy says chattel slavery is a bad thing, but this other guy says it's great" - just watch out. We hacks are just the canary. The same syndrome is taking place deep in the coal mine of national culture, and Texas, now more in the thrall of the Tea Party than any other state in the union, is the epicenter for the collapse.

Something Not Rotten in Denmark

by Paul Krugman

No doubt surprising many of the people
watching the Democratic presidential debate, Bernie Sanders cited Denmark as a role model for how to help working people. Hillary Clinton demurred slightly, declaring that "we are not Denmark," but agreed that Denmark is an inspiring example.

Stories from Our Advertisers

Such an exchange would have been inconceivable among Republicans, who don't seem able to talk about European welfare states without adding the word "collapsing." Basically, on Planet G.O.P. all of Europe is just a bigger version of Greece. But how great are the Danes, really? http://is.gd/2EF5LZ
