Help Recall Scott Walker in Wisconsin - you can work tonight and tomorrow from right here in Texas !!

Joan wrote .. I'd like to sponsor Monday's newsletter or place an ad for

the WI  recall of Scott Walker. We can help with GOTV canvassing and phone banks. Both MoveOn and DFA have national phone banking going on to reach voters in Wisconsin.....

Republicans are going all-in for right-wing Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. Walker's campaign has already spent $21 million trying to whitewash his record of attacking middle class families. The RNC says they'll spend whatever it takes to win. And Super PACs are spending millions trying to tear Democrats down.

They're drowning us in attack ads, but the polls haven't moved an inch. We were neck and neck six months ago, and we're neck and neck today. There are virtually no undecided voters left, so it all comes down to Getting Out The Vote. Whoever best turns out their base will in.
Can you make calls to Democratic voters and help Get Out The Vote?

You can sign up to work for MoveOn here

Thanks to Joan for sponsoring this week's newsletter and encouraging us all to help!

Justice Department Orders Florida to Stop Voter Purge Targeting Latino, Democratic Voters

The Justice Department has ordered Florida, a likely key swing state in the 2012 election, to end a controversial voter purge that has primarily targeted Latino, Democratic and independent-minded voters. The Justice Department says the process had not been cleared under the Voting Rights Act. We speak with Rep. Ted Deutch (D-FL); Diana Sen, lead counsel for LatinoJustice, part of a coalition of civil rights groups working to protect Latino voters in Florida and elsewhere; and Maureen Russo, a Fort Lauderdale resident who was among the voters initially purged even though she is a U.S. citizen who has voted for the past 40 years. Inside Job Director Charles Ferguson: Where Are the Criminal Prosecutions for Financial Crisis?

The Labor Department has just announced the United States economy gained only 69,000 jobs in May and the unemployment rate rose to 8.2 percent. We air part two of our interview with Academy Award-winning director Charles Ferguson, who first examined the network of academic, financial and political players who contributed to the nation's financial crisis in his documentary, Inside Job. In his new book, Predator Nation: Corporate Criminals, Political Corruption, and the Hijacking of America, Ferguson draws on newly released court filings to continue his investigation. Jimmy Carter on Monitoring Egyptian Elections, U.S.-Egypt Relations, Future of Camp David Accords

The Carter Center was one of three international organizations accredited to witness Egypt's historic presidential election last week. Its mission was led by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter. Two days before the official election results were announced, Democracy Now! correspondent Sharif Abdel Kouddous interviewed President Carter in Cairo about the landmark vote. He also discusses the role of the military in post-Mubarak Egypt and the Camp David Accords. Watch/Listen/Read

Dallas area activists protest ExxonMobil shareholders for rejecting  LGBT employment protections

ExxonMobil shareholders have again voted down a proposal to add gay and transgender employees to the Irving-based corporation's nondiscrimination policy.

Meeting at the Meyerson Symphony Center in the Dallas Arts District, the ExxonMobil shareholders voted 80 percent to 20 percent Wednesday morning against a resolution asking the corporation to amend "its written equal employment opportunity policy to explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity and to substantially implement the policy."

The proposal has been introduced each year since Mobil and Exxon merged in 1999. The highest level of support came in 2008 at nearly 40 percent.  read on

Online Progressive Radio and Video shows/podcasts

The purpose of the Progressive Information Project is to more widely share resources and information created to advance progressive causes. A lot of good work is being done, but the average progressive often doesn't learn about it or know what is available. This series is designed to help alleviate that problem.

This week's post is very simple-it's an attempt to round up all of the online progressive radio shows, podcasts, and video shows that are regularly produced. See them all here and here

This Republican economy by Paul Krugman  NYTimes

What should be done about the economy? Republicans claim to have the answer: slash spending and cut taxes. What they hope voters won't notice is that that's precisely the policy we've been following the past couple of years. Never mind the Democrat in the White House; for all practical purposes, this is already the economic policy of Republican dreams.

Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times

So the Republican electoral strategy is, in effect, a gigantic con game: it depends on convincing voters that the bad economy is the result of big-spending policies that President Obama hasn't followed (in large part because the G.O.P. wouldn't let him), and that our woes can be cured by pursuing more of the same policies that have already failed.

The Sunlight Foundation Will Save Your Politicians' Embarrassing Tweets For History

For as long as politicians have been using Twitter, politicians have been embarrassing themselves on Twitter.

This is because they're mostly dimwits who have only gotten where they've gotten in life because smarter people purchase them with special interest money, point them to where they can buy turd polish by the vat on Amazon and teach them how to lather up.
