Michelle Obama is coming to Dallas this week

Here's the announcement from the White House.

The visit is part of a tour by the first lady to celebrate the second anniversary of Let's Move!, her initiative to combat childhood obesity.

On Thursday evening, she'll be in Fort Worth, meet over dinner at an Olive Garden with parents who are changing eating and exercise habits in their homes. The company that owns Olive Garden and other chains, including Red Lobster, last fall pledged to make kids' menus more healthy.

On Friday morning, Obama will join members of the Dallas Cowboys and chef contestants from past seasons Top Chef, the Bravo series, "to highlight the work being done in schools across America to provide healthier food to students." btomaso@dallasnews.com

Occupy the Super Bowl: Indiana's New Anti-Union Law Sparks Protest at Sport's Biggest Spectacle

Occupy protesters in Indianapolis are gearing up to use the media spotlight on Sunday's Super Bowl XLVI to rally for union rights outside the statehouse. Earlier this week, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels signed a so-called "right to work" measure into law that critics say will result in lower wages and diminished collective bargaining rights. Indiana workers have received the backing of the National Football League Players Association, which has called "right to work" "a political ploy designed to destroy basic workers' rights." We're joined from Indiana by Tithi Bhattacharya, an associate professor of South Asian History at Purdue University and a protester who is taking part in Occupy the Super Bowl. Watch/Listen/Read

Gasland Director Josh Fox Arrested at Congressional Hearing on Natural Gas Fracking

The Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Josh Fox was handcuffed and arrested Wednesday as he attempted to film a congressional hearing on the controversial natural gas drilling technique known as fracking, which the Environmental Protection Agency recently reported caused water contamination in Pavillion, Wyoming. Fox directed the award-winning film, Gasland, which documents the impact of fracking on communities across the United States, and is now working on a sequel. Fox says he was arrested after Republicans refused to allow him to film because he did not have the proper credentials. Watch/Listen/Read

The House I Live In: New Documentary Exposes Economic, Moral Failure of U.S. War on Drugs

This weekend the top documentary prize at the Sundance Film Festival went to The House I Live In, which questions why the United States has spent more than $1 trillion on drug arrests in the past 40 years, and yet drugs are cheaper, purer and more available today than ever. The film examines the economic, as well as the moral and practical, failures of the so-called "war on drugs" and calls on the United States to approach drug abuse not as a "war," but as a matter of public health. We speak with the film's director, Eugene Jarecki, and Nannie Jeter, who helped raise Jarecki as her own son succumbed to drug addiction and is highlighted in the film. We air clips from the film, featuring Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow; Canadian physician and bestselling author, Gabor Maté; and David Simon, creator of The Wire. No Politics, Just Science: A New App Explains Climate Change

A new, free app for iPhones and iPads called Just Science jolts us back to reality by translating the science of climate change into layperson's terms.

The app takes two centuries of data from the comprehensive Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature (BEST) study, then converts it into a color-coded moving map that shows how today's monthly temperatures compare to historical averages since 1800.

The result, according to developer Nick Orenstein, is a gradual, everyday reminder of what's happening to the planet.

Twitter Preps Journalists For 2012 Election Coverage-Twitter is looking to train journalists to cover the 2012 Presidential elections in 140-characters or less.

** Includes citizen journalist - get the news out about your group or candidate!

Twitter is becoming increasingly important to politicians and the journalists who cover their speeches, platforms and debates. Journalists use it to source and promote their stories, and often facts break on Twitter before they are reported on major news outlets like CNN.

And Twitter isn't ignorant of its political power.

The company has just launched a new official Twitter account, @TwitterForNews, to direct journalists to resources for using Twitter to cover the news. As its bio describes it, the account will be "spotlighting best practices and innovative uses of Twitter by journalists and newsrooms."

Is Keith Olbermann the Last Hope for Gore's Current TV?

Al Gore's Current TV is remaking itself as the anti-Fox. Can an election year, Occupy Wall Street, and Keith Olbermann propel it out of oblivion?

It was early November when tensions between Keith Olbermann and Al Gore escalated into a crisis at Current TV. There had been a short honeymoon after Gore, the channel's co-owner, had handed the notoriously temperamental anchor a reported $10 million salary and equity stake in February of last year, but the relationship soured quickly. Now, just five months after Olbermann's show Countdown had resurfaced on Current, it looked as if he might walk away.

Romney Isn't Concerned

By PAUL KRUGMAN NYTimes

If you're an American down on your luck, Mitt Romney has a message for you: He doesn't feel your pain. Earlier this week, Mr. Romney told a startled CNN interviewer, "I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there."

Faced with criticism, the candidate has claimed that he didn't mean what he seemed to mean, and that his words were taken out of context. But he quite clearly did mean what he said. And the more context you give to his statement, the worse it gets.

The action called attention to the continuing foreclosure crisis and called for holding banksters accountable and restitution for those harmed by the fraudulent malpractice of the banks. Strong working relations were built among the organizations for future actions.

Fracking disclosures are now required in Texas

ing-disclosures-are-now-required.html#storylink=cpy

FORT WORTH, Texas - A new Texas Railroad Commission rule requiring oil and natural gas operators to publicly disclose the chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing of natural gas and oil wells takes effect Wednesday.

The rule also requires that operators disclose how much water is used in fracking, a process that may require 1 million to 5 million gallons for a well drilled in North Texas' Barnett Shale.
