Some of you have attended a DFA Campaign Training in the past and understand how beneficial the training is for Candidates and their Staff as well as potential Volunteers. It is my personal belief that each of us should be involved in at least ONE campaign this November. Several of us will be working on John Lingenfelder's campaign or Bill White's campaign or Carol Kent's campaign.
I have attached a flyer with the information for the Training . All the information is online and sign-up is on line. We are fortunate that Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson will be our speaker for lunch on Saturday and we hope to have Bill White on Sunday (that is not confirmed). We have asked Carol Kent to speak on Saturday morning and Allen Vaught to speak on Sunday morning (neither are confirmed). I've attached additional information below. Please feel free to contact Michael or me for any additional information.

A rogue Supreme Court seems hellbent on establishing a corporate oligarchy. Congress can't stop it. Every time Congress or state legislatures tries to curb the power of billionaires or mega corporations the Court slaps them down.Citizens United v. FEC, the recent Supreme Court decision that allowed corporations to spend unlimited sums of money to influence elections is only the most recent step in this process. There will be more. But the shocking decision may be sufficient to galvanize a political movement that can change the rules and ensure our democracy.

Thousands of demonstrators opposed to a controversial new immigration law in Arizona took to downtown Dallas' streets Saturday, waving American flags and echoing chants of patriotism and change.
The peaceful throng, estimated in the tens of thousands but smaller than anticipated, wound its way from the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe along Pearl and Young streets to City Hall.

Chicago WCPT goes 24 hr
It's official: Newsweb Radio progressive talk WCPT-AM (820) is a 24-hour station, thanks to Federal Communications Commission approval this week. As of Thursday, the former daytimer began broadcasting at night, with its signal strongest in the southwest suburbs. Overnight programming includes rebroadcasts of syndicated hosts Stephanie Miller at 9 p.m., Ed Schultz at 11 p.m., Bill Press at midnight, and Thom Hartmann at 2 a.m. For listeners outside of WCPT's nighttime coverage area, the station also can be heard online at ChicagosProgressiveTalk.com. Cenk Uygur on the success of The Young Turks America's longest-running online political talk show announces first sponsorship deal- Guardian UK Cenk Uygur is the bombastic host of America's longest-running online political talk show, The Young Turks (TYT for short), and he wants to start a revolution in the US. "I don't mean it like the Tea Party guys who talk about guns and violence, I mean a real political revolution," the former lawyer from New Jersey explains, referring to protests in the US by the Tea Party movement, which supports constitutionally limited government and free  markets.
TYT, which came to national prominence in 2005 with a 99-hour "Live, On Air Filibuster" during supreme court nomination hearings, is also part of a media revolution. Its filibustering was quickly followed by a decision to launch on YouTube. It now averages 13 million viewers a month.
Last week, TYT announced its first sponsorship deal with Netflix, the online film rental company. It has deals with other online businesses, such as godaddy.com, SquareSpace and GameFly, in the pipeline as well. Not shy of self-promotion, Uygur, a fixture on TV in the US, says: "We are a rare online show that is profitable and expanding. We've hired three people in the last five months. The growth and the sponsors were organic. We didn't come in with a lot of money or a big sponsor. We created the show, found the audience, then got the sponsors."

Charles Dean Hood's mug shotWhen the U.S. Supreme Court denied Charles Dean Hood's appeal last week, it was done in a one-sentence, unsigned order. Hood is a Texas death-row inmate who was convicted of murdering two people in 1990. Long after the conclusion of the trial, it became clear that his trial judge and prosecutor had been secretly involved in a years-long extramarital affair. Because they were both married, they denied the affair-even to Hood's death-penalty lawyers. After the clandestine relationship finally came to light, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals rejected Hood's challenge in two curt sentences last September, finding that his lawyers had waited too long to raise the issue on appeal. How Hood was to have raised the conflict of interest when the existence of the affair was not conclusively established until 2008, when the judge and prosecutor were forced to admit it under oath, is not explained.
