May 12 General Meeting: Planned Parenthood Update

Thursday, May 12, 2016   6:30 PM   Collin County Higher Education Center 3452 TX-399 Spur (Northeast corner SH 121 and 75 Central), RM 200, McKinney, TX

Kelly Hart from Planned Parenthood will give us an update on the current Supreme Court case related to the Texas law that severely restricts abortion providers and clinics. This law serves no medical purpose and makes it very difficult for many women to have an abortion, which is their legal, constitutional right. Kelly will discuss the details of the case, what to expect, and how Planned Parenthood will proceed either way the court decides. Please come and find out how you can support this great organization, which has helped millions of women and men and families, by providing preventative healthcare, cancer screenings, reproductive health services and family planning.

We also invite our candidates to come for an endorsement ceremony, celebration, and photo op!

Meet and greet at 6:30 PM. Program at 6:45 PM. Business meeting at 8:00 PM.

Robber Baron Recessions by Paul Krugman

Robber Baron Recessions

Paul Krugman APRIL 18, 2016

When Verizon workers went on strike last week, they were mainly protesting efforts to outsource work to low-wage, non-union contractors. But they were also angry about the company's unwillingness to invest in its own business. In particular, Verizon has shown a remarkable lack of interest in expanding its Fios high-speed Internet network, despite strong demand.

Jailhouse stories

A new website, "Jailhouse Stories: Voices from Pretrial Detention in Texas," has been released by Texas Jail Project. Collected over a two-year period, these powerful stories document a pattern of mistreatment and poor conditions experienced by those incarcerated in county jails while pretrial-innocent in the eyes of the law and awaiting their day in court.
