"Meals on Wheels for Animals" Keeps Seniors And Pets Together

When seniors have trouble getting around, organizations like Meals on Wheels offer a hand to those in need. But what happens to seniors' pets when their owner no longer has the means to care for them? That's where SPAN, Seniors Pet Assistance Network, steps in. Sometimes called the "Meals on Wheels for Animals," SPAN works with seniors who need assistance caring for their pet.

See how you can help here: http://bubly.us/46Dj

Public hearing on State's Air Plan and Lon Burnam good bye event

PUBLIC HEARING ON THE STATE'S AIR PLAN FOR DFW FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS

THURSDAY, JANUARY 15th 6:30 PM

ARLINGTON CITY HALL 101 W. Abram

It's the ONLY local Public Hearing on the new State Air Plan for DFW.

Another one isn't scheduled for at least three years - that's a lot of smog in the meantime.

SEND COMMENTS NOW and then....

SHOW UP IN ARLINGTON ON THURSDAY at 6:30 pm

We need you to show-up and let the State of Texas know, and, more importantly, signal to the EPA, that this kind of plan is unacceptable after decades of DFW being in violation of the Clean Air Act.

EPA has to sign-off on this plan after its submitted by the state. The feds can accept it, reject it, or substitute their own plan. You can review talking points by clicking here.

We've also written prepared comments that reflect those talking points that you can send to the state and EPA right now. You can add your own comments as well. Just click here to get started.

Speak up Thursday or be prepared to hold your breath ...for three years.

THEN, after you Agitate for clean air at the hearing, walk four blocks down the street and join us to Celebrate! After 18 years of public service in the Texas Legislature on behalf of all of us, Lon Burnam is saying good-bye.

Please come over and thank him for his efforts while you raise money to keep Downwiders in business.....

Annual Elite News Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade and Festival. The Parade and Festival will begin promptly at 10 AM at the corner of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Holmes Street in Dallas. The parade will proceed eastbound on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard toward Fair Park. Why the Media Started Caring About the American Worker Again

Not long ago, I was alarmed about the sharp decline in media coverage of labor.

For a few years, one news organization after another-The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, NPR-was dropping its position of labor reporter.

North Texas Food Bank opens pantry to serve South Dallas residents, study best practices

It sits on a corner lot in a South Dallas food desert. In a neighborhood of homes with barred windows, a steel fence surrounds the brick building.

Once a liquor store, the building is now Our Community Pantry, a food haven along Pennsylvania Avenue for three neighborhood ZIP codes.

Dallas Says: PROSECUTE TORTURE!

The CIA Torture Report is out.Now it's time for prosecutions!

WHO: North Texans for a torture-free world!

WHAT: March and rally to call for accountability for torture.

WHERE: Meet upstairs by the elevators on the west side of Mockingbird Dart Station. After donning orange jumpsuits (if you don't want to wear one, please dress in all black), we will march to the Mockingbird bridge and demonstrate there before continuing our march up to the Bush Presidential Library.

WHEN: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11th, 2015

WHY? The Center for Constitutional Rights explains:

"According to U.S. domestic law and international human rights treaties, like the Convention Against Torture (CAT), by which the U.S. is bound, torture is illegal in all circumstances and can-and must-be prosecuted.

Prosecutions can provide a measure of justice for the survivors and victims of torture and serious mistreatment, and will provide a meaningful disincentive for future government officials to violate the law. No executive order, policy change or corrective legislation will provide such a lasting deterrence. If we want to "look forward" to a world without torture, we must look backward first. There must be accountability."

January 11, 2015 marks the 13th anniversary of the opening by the Bush administration of the prison at Guantanamo Bay, which has become a symbol of our nation's use of torture. Closing GTMO and prosecuting those responsible for the torture program are steps needed to end U.S.-sponsored torture forever. Join us for a march and rally in Dallas to DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY for torture.

Texas: The Blue Frontier

Texas won't turn blue from the top down, but it may already be doing so from the ground up.

The ramifications will be far-reaching regardless of when Texas formally flips. Nothing in our political universe can resist the gravitational pull of the Lone Star State.

Have you heard the one about turning Texas blue?

It may seem like a joke after the midterm elections. Wendy Davis, the Democrats' once-promising candidate for governor, got only 39 percent, and Republicans increased their majority in the state legislature.
