Rick Perry Read A Book On Economics And Won't Shut Up About It

Meet smart Rick Perry. He's rested, ready and really into policy. And he wants everyone to know it.

Rick Perry has been slapped with many nicknames since he entered politics back in the mid-eighties, but "thought leader" has never been one of them.

Since his epic "oops" moment ended his 2012 presidential ambitions, Perry has seemed determined to change the perception he was just another Texan who was all swagger and no substance. read on

House votes to bar fracking bans by cities

AUSTIN - The House moved Friday to bar cities from banning fracking and placing other limits on oil and gas drilling after a debate that pitted a key state industry against communities' desire for local control.

The measure, which won tentative approval on a 122-18 vote, was legislative backlash against the hydraulic fracturing ban that Denton voters passed last year. The bill would probably make the city's ban unenforceable.

Chelsea Manning and the Deepwater Horizon Deaths By Greg Palast

Five years ago Monday, 11 men died on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig-despite Manning's effort to save their lives. Let me explain.

The BP drilling rig blew itself to kingdom come after the "mud"-the cement used to cap the well-blew out.The oil company, the federal government and the industry were shocked-shocked!-at this supposedly unexpected explosion in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

That Old-Time Economics

Paul Krugman

America has yet to achieve a full recovery from the effects of the 2008 financial crisis. Still, it seems fair to say that we've made up much, though by no means all, of the lost ground.

But you can't say the same about the eurozone, where real G.D.P. per capita is still lower than it was in 2007, and 10 percent or more below where it was supposed to be by now. This is worse than Europe's track record during the 1930s.
