Dallas City Council will vote to pay $270,000 to make protesters' free-speech lawsuit go away

Almost two years after six people sued the city of Dallas - twice - over its ordinance prohibiting protests near a roadway, that lawsuit's about to vanish. All the Dallas City Council has to do is agree to pay the defendants no more than $270,000.

Texas NRA leader: Teachers should be able to spank kids 'so I don't have to put a bullet' in them

A high-ranking member of the Texas branch of the National Rifle Association said in a recent forum post that teachers should be allowed to use force against students in public schools, up to and including deadly force to save people like himself from having to "put a bullet" in them when they become criminals.

Preston Hollow Democrats -- A panel discussion on the topic: "Beyond a Living Wage" With guest panelists: Katelyn Davis, Workers Rights Advocate, and Juan Cardoza - Oquendo, Policy Advocate, Dallas Office of the Workers Defense Project. They will discuss wage issues which workers in Dallas County, Tarrant County and the surrounding counties of the Metroplex, face because of wage theft, the failure to pay the wages due, illegal working conditions, the recent campaign in front of the City Council to win a rest break for construction workers and related issues. We will also have a presentation by Larry Duncan - President, Dallas County Schools Board of Trustees. He will discuss the work of the Dallas County Schools. Many economists, including Janet Yellen, view global economic troubles since 2008 largely as a story about "deleveraging" - a simultaneous attempt by debtors almost everywhere to reduce their liabilities. Why is deleveraging a problem? Because my spending is your income, and your spending is my income, so if everyone slashes spending at the same time, incomes go down around the world.

Governor Cuomo of New York has declared a statewide ban on fracking. Local citizen-led initiatives in Ohio, Texas, New Mexico, and California have banned fracking. Communities across the United States and world are saying NO to this environmentally disastrous method of extracting fossil fuels from the land.
