Democratic Network Forum Sat. Aug. 10th, Judge Bonnie Goldstein and Michael Handley will talk  U.S. Supreme Court's strike down of Section 4 of Voting Rights Act and Texas

For the Democratic Network Forum on Saturday morning, Aug. 10th, Judge Bonnie Goldstein and Michael Handley will talk about the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to strike down Section 4 of Voting Rights Act and Texas' immediately decision to start enforcement of its Voter Photo I.D. Law, which had been blocked by District Court order in August 2012.

The forum discussion will cover SCOTUS' decision, the new Photo I.D. voting requirements, and what steps political organizations and candidates planning to run in 2014 should take to prepare for photo I.D. law enforcement for the 2014 Primary and General Elections, if further court action does not block its implementation.

Judge Goldstein and Michael will also cover continuing efforts to block the photo I.D law through court action, status of legislative efforts to reauthorize VRA Sec 4, and what Deputy Voter Registrars can do to make sure the people they register have information about the photo I.D law.

Join us on Saturday morning at the John & Judy Gay Library, 6861 W. Eldorado Pkwy., McKinney, TX 75070.

Study: Dallas County among 30 U.S. counties that stand to gain the most from Obamacare

More than 1,000 people showed up for a free health fair clinic at the Dallas Convention Center last September. Texas is the state with the biggest share of its people uninsured -- 23.8 percent in 2011, according to the Census Bureau. (Mona Reeder/Staff photographer)

Texas is home to more than two-thirds of the nation's 30 counties most in need of expanded health insurance coverage, according to a liberal group.

The Center for American Progress Action Fund ranked 22 Texas counties - including Dallas - as among the "30 worst" in the country, citing residents' lack of insurance and poor health outcomes, such as heart attack deaths.
