The People's Response to Bush Lie-bury : Donahue in Dallas to host "Body of War" screening

Donahue in Dallas to host "Body of War" screening; as Bush Center celebrates, Iraq veteran shares plans to end his life

Body of War, a film about paralyzed Iraq war veteran Tomas Young, will be screened on April 24, the evening before the dedication of the George W. Bush Presidential Center. Emmy winner Phil Donahue, who co-directed the film, will be on hand to introduce it. Last month, Young decided to end his life by rejecting nourishment. Following the movie, the audience will see a short film in which Young explains his decision, after which he will speak with the audience, live, via Skype.

Young enlisted in the army after 9-11, wanting to defend his country from terrorists, however he was deployed to Iraq. Five days in country he suffered a gunshot wound that left him paralyzed from the chest down. Donahue decided to make the film after meeting Young at Walter Reed Medical Center. It explores how Young becomes an anti-war advocate while struggling with his paralysis.

In his final days, Young decided to culminate his anti-war activism with a "last letter" to George W. Bush & Dick Cheney that can be found at http://www.truthdig.com/dig/item/the_last_letter_20130318/.

The film screening is part of a series of events presented by The People's Response, a group that advocates for accountability of government officials, corporations, and those in positions of power as a means to achieve justice for all.  Rick Perry: North Korea wants to blow up Texas to stop my awesome awesomeness

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) believes that his success as governor has made Texas a target for attack by North Korea leader Kim Jong-un.

Following the news that a North Korean government photo had revealed plans to strike cities in the United States, many were confused about why Austin made the list along with obvious targets like Washington, D.C. and San Francisco.

New Texas Interactive Fracking Map

This map shows more than 7,000 sites around Texas where wastewater, often from hydraulic fracturing operations, is being disposed of. Such wastewater disposal has surged statewide with the spread of fracking, because it's cheaper to bury the water in disposal wells than to recycle it. Use the "Find Me" button to zoom in to your location, or type your ZIP code into the text box to find nearby disposal wells.

The data used in this map comes from the Texas Railroad Commission, the agency that regulates oil and gas production. This map visualizes active wells for disposal into "non-productive" and "productive zones." Black dots represent each individual well and are viewable as you zoom in.

If you signed one of those petitions against renaming Central Expressway in Dallas for George W. Bush,  Rep. Dan Branch tries to clarify ???

Below is a message that Rep. Dan Branch (TX-108) asked us to pass along in response to the petition "Do not allow Central Expressway (US 75) to be named after George W. Bush." (http://signon.org/sign/do-not-allow-central), which you signed.

Dear Constituent,

Thank you for taking the time to communicate your thoughts about Central Expressway.

As a Dallas resident who has lived in close proximity to US 75 for more than thirty years, I share your affinity for the name for "Central" and "Central Expressway." Contrary to some earlier media reports, I do not support renaming US 75.

Recently, I proposed a bill that would designate the four-mile portion of US 75 between Knox-Henderson and Northwest Highway as the George W. Bush Expressway. The proposal is for a designation, not a renaming.

This bill will not rename US 75. It will simply designate a portion of US 75 as the George W. Bush Expressway. This designation is similar to the designation of a portion of I-30 just west of downtown Dallas as the Tom Landry Highway. That designation did not rename I-30. In addition, taxpayers will not pay for any new signage as private parties, not TxDOT, will cover signage costs related to the designation.

Drivers will continue to refer to one of our city's primary roadways as "Central," "Central Expressway," "North Central Expressway" and "US 75." Moreover, businesses will not need to revise their addresses, related stationary or signage. Over ten miles will separate the designated portion of US 75 from where the PGBT (President George Bush Turnpike) crosses US 75 in Collin County. As such, Central will not be confused with PGBT.

Designating the portion of US 75 near the George W. Bush Presidential Center at SMU is not a partisan issue. As one of only thirteen libraries in the nation administered by Office of Presidential Libraries, the Bush Center is a destination venue for all Americans, regardless of their political affiliation.

This spring, thousands of people and millions of tourism, research and economic development dollars will pour into Dallas as a result of DFW's newest attraction. Designating the relevant portion of US 75 as the George W. Bush Expressway will highlight and direct tourists, researchers and invitees to this unique location. As a result, designation will help spur economic activity and increase tax revenue for North Texas.

Please accept my sincere apologies for any confusion from the initial media coverage. I appreciate your engagement on this issue and hope you consider supporting the designation of a small portion US 75 adjacent to the new Presidential Center as the George W. Bush Expressway.

Best wishes.    Sincerely,  Dan Branch

President Obama will soon release a new budget, and the commentary is already flowing fast and furious. Progressives are angry (with good reason) over proposed cuts to Social Security; conservatives are denouncing the call for more revenues. But it's all Kabuki. Since House Republicans will block anything Mr. Obama proposes, his budget is best seen not as policy but as positioning, an attempt to gain praise from "centrist" pundits.

No, the real policy action at this point is in the states, where the question is, How many Americans will be denied essential health care in the name of freedom?

WikiLeaks published more than 1.7 million U.S. diplomatic records from the 1970s Monday, coined the Kissinger Cables, to coincide with the launch of a new searchable database for all of its released materials.
