Halthcare Reform passes: This is what change looks like.

This is what change looks like.

My gratitude tonight is profound. I am thankful for those in past generations whose heroic efforts brought this great goal within reach for our times. I am thankful for the members of Congress whose months of effort and brave votes made it possible to take this final step. But most of all, I am thankful for you.

This day is not the end of this journey. Much hard work remains, and we have a solemn responsibility to do it right. But we can face that work together with the confidence of those who have moved mountains.

Our journey began three years ago, driven by a shared belief that fundamental change is indeed still possible. We have worked hard together every day since to deliver on that belief.

We have shared moments of tremendous hope, and we've faced setbacks and doubt. We have all been forced to ask if our politics had simply become too polarized and too short-sighted to meet the pressing challenges of our time. This struggle became a test of whether the American people could still rally together when the cause was right -- and actually create the change we believe in.

Tonight, thanks to your mighty efforts, the answer is indisputable: Yes we can.

Thank you, President Barack Obama

Jon Stewart's epic Glenn Beck parody

The Daily Show host spends 15 minutes ridiculing Glenn Beck by imitating him

On last week
's "Daily Show," Jon Stewart skipped his usual format to spend the entire first half of the show acting like Glenn Beck -- mugging for the camera, writing on blackboards, making ridiculously broad claims, and shouting "lie!" over and over. It's a satisfying, spot-on imitation, well worth 15 minutes of your time

Alan Grayson (D-FL) introduces "The Public Option Act," a measure that would allow people under sixty-five to buy into Medicare. The bill has attracted fifty co-sponsors. Grayson joins us to discuss the measure and healthcare reform overall, his own family's experience with private insurance companies and more.

Noam Chomsky on Obama's Foreign Policy, His Own History of Activism, and the Importance of Speaking Out

We spend the hour with world-renowned linguist and dissident, Noam Chomsky. In a wide-ranging public conversation at the Harvard Memorial Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Chomsky talks about President Obama's foreign and national security policies, the lessons of Vietnam, and his own activism. "You just can't become involved part-time in these things," Chomsky says. "It's either serious and you're seriously involved, or you go to a demonstration and go home and forget about it and go back to work, and nothing happens. Things only happen by really dedicated, diligent work."

Acclaimed historian Rick Perlstein chronicles the rise of the conservative movement in the liberal 1960s. At the heart of the story is Barry Goldwater, the renegade Republican from Arizona who loathed federal government, despised liberals, and mocked "peaceful coexistence" with the USSR. Perlstein's narrative shines a light on a whole world of conservatives and their antagonists, including William F. Buckley, Nelson Rockefeller, and Bill Moyers. Vividly written, Before the Storm is an essential book about the 1960s.

On March 23, Pakistan Republic Day, North Texans will protest the sending of unmanned drones to indiscriminately bomb innocent civilians in Pakistan and Afghanistan. A diverse group of Texan demonstrators and citizens will gather to say, "Save Pakistan from U.S. Robots". Drone strikes have killed hundreds of innocent civilians, failed to reduce levels of violence, serve as a recruiting tool for the Taliban and may well be illegal under international law. It is time to end automated drone warfare in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Note: This event has been brought to you by the "Save Pakistan from U.S. Robots" committee // Part of the Dallas Peace Center initiative for Pakistan subcommittee // The oldest and largest peace and justice organization in North Texas

See Al Franken at this years Netroots

On the campaign trail, Al Franken fought for the middle class, focusing on issues like making college and health care more affordable. During the recount, he fought for a fair Democratic process. And as a U.S. Senator, he fights every day for real progressive values just as the former Sen. Paul Wellstone did.

That fighting spirit is exactly why we chose Minnesota Sen. Al Franken to close out our fifth annual Netroots Nation convention in Las Vegas.

The Heartbeat of America's Democratic Reform Movement
by Jim Hightower

It read like just another obituary written about someone who'd lived a very long time: "Doris Haddock died peacefully in her family home," it began. "Born in 1910, she lived through two world wars and the Great Depression. She is survived by her son, eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren."
Oh, and one other thing: "She walked across the United States at age 90 to rally public support for campaign finance reform."
Doris Haddock - better known as "Granny D" - was not your usual elderly lady, living her last years in quiet repose. She had always been that finest of the American species: a "Citizen" - with a capital C - one who stayed engaged in the public issues of her time.

Michael Moore | The Green They Steal, the Greed They Wear

Now, you would think these thieves would love this bill - but they are actually fighting it. Why? Because it doesn't give them ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of the what they want. It only gives them... 90%! YOU SEE, pure greed demands all or nothing.

New C-span Video Library

Washington Post Political Blog: "On Wednesday [March 17, 2010], C-SPAN will launch a searchable video library that includes all of its programming dating to 1987. Which means that, if you were so inclined, you could watch every one of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy's floor speeches or relive Barack Obama's speech at the 2007 Iowa Democratic Party Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. Of the video library, C-SPAN co-president Susan Swain said: "Its extensive holdings will allow the public to see how elected officials, politicians, journalists, experts, authors and other opinion leaders present themselves on the issues of the day and over time." Bonuses: A "Congressional Chronicle" feature lets viewers to search all floor speeches and committee remarks for any member, and built-in tools allow you to post a video link to Facebook, Twitter or e-mail."
