Michael Moore: Healthcare Bill "A Victory for Capitalism"

President Barack Obama is signing the main healthcare overhaul bill this morning at a White House ceremony. We speak with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore. "The healthcare bill that was passed ultimately will be seen as a victory for capitalism," Moore says. "It protected the capitalist model of providing healthcare for people-in other words, we are not to help unless there is money to be made from it."

American Tea Party Top 40- The smash hits of conservative alienation.

If the Tea Party movement really is, as some organizers have put it, this generation's Civil Rights movement, we should expect some decent music. In theory. But while the next Pete Seeger or Bob Dylan has yet to materialize, it hasn't been for lack of effort: Conservative unrest with all things governmental has sparked an outpouring of musical expression. Behold the awesomeness. (Click on thumbnail videos at left to view. Click on the arrow below the thumbnails to see the next batch.)

Maddow in town
MSNBC anchor and former Air-America radio host Rachel Maddow made an appearance at the Little Rock convention center this morning as part of the Clinton School's speaker series. She talked about her high school experience, her early career in AIDS activism
and her transition into the media. Maddow was, as you might expect from watching

Brown, Maddow wage political war over fund-raising letterRachel Maddow claims she can't get a call back from her new senator. For four days, the liberal media personality has been inviting Senator Scott Brown to appear on her show, she says, to set the record straight: She is not going to run against him. Honestly. No, really.

Yesterday, her network, MSNBC, took out a full-page ad in The Boston Globe to deny that she will run against Brown in 2012, as Brown asserted in a fund-raising letter this week. "It's just not true. Honestly. I swear,'' she wrote.

Inside the White House Press Corps: Progressive Talk Radio Host Bill Press
Progressive talk radio host and frequent cable news guest Bill Press is, like me, a member in good standing of the "back five," the scrappy White House reporters who wait patiently for Robert Gibbs to finish with the first two rows while hoping the clock doesn't run out. His show is syndicated by Dial Global, and can be heard online or via podcast.

Marc Maron discusses the driving forces of anger and fear

During his tenure at Air America, comedian Marc Maron bolstered his reputation for delivering keen political commentary by hosting such shows as Morning Sedition, The Marc Maron Show, and Breakroom Live. Much to Maron's frustration, the liberal radio network would eventually cancel all three shows-but, with Air America folding earlier this year, it would appear as if Maron has had the last laugh. Now Maron is regularly joined by big names in comedy for his popular podcast, WTF With Marc Maron. Prior to his March 22 performance at The Black Cat, Maron spoke with The A.V. Club about his feelings on the late-night wars, the demise of Air America, and his unique joke-writing process.

Replace Randy "baby killer" Neugebauer with Democrat Andy Wilson !

The response to Congressman Randy Neugebauer's outburst on the House floor during Sunday's debate on health care reform has been overwhelming.   People from all across the country are outraged at Mr. Neugebauer's rude and senseless remark.

I appreciate this response. Clearly, Mr. Neugebauer has departed from the West Texas values of courtesy and from representation that works toward effective legislation.  The contrast between his behavior and my message regarding steps needed for progress in our area has never been more apparent.

We need to send a Representative to Congress who will be effective for West Texas, who knows when to hold his tongue and when to speak, who knows how to legislate and not to heckle!

I am doing everything possible to defeat Randy Neugebauer and bring true representation of West Texas values to Washington, and I appreciate your support!  Contribute now to allow me to take this message to a larger audience and point out the divisiveness of Randy Neugebauer's destructive approach to politics.
Send $10 !!!

Whose Country Is It?
 by Charles Blow NYT

The far-right extremists have gone into conniptions.
The bullying, threats, and acts of violence following the passage of health care reform have been shocking, but they're only the most recent manifestations of an increasing sense of desperation.
It's an extension of a now-familiar theme: some version of "take our country back." The problem is that the country romanticized by the far right hasn't existed for some time, and its ability to deny that fact grows more dim every day. President Obama and what he represents has jolted extremists into the present and forced them to confront the future. And it scares them.

Turning "Texas Education" Into an Oxymoron

Turning "Texas Education" Into an Oxymoron
Jim Hightower, Truthout: "In the good-and-good-for-you department, food scientists are now touting the health benefits of enjoying a handful of nuts every day. I, for one, am glad, because I love nuts - pecans, hazelnuts, pistachios, almonds, you-name-'em. But my favorite nuts, by far, are the homegrown natives that have taken root in one particularly fertile area of my state: the Texas Board of Education. You just can't get any nuttier than this bunch!"
