America Is NOT Broke ...the Madison speech by Michael Moore |
America Is NOT Broke ...the Madison speech by Michael Moore Delivered in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday, March 5th, 2011. Video available here. America is not broke. Contrary to what those in power would like you to believe so that you'll give up your pension, cut your wages, and settle for the life your great-grandparents had, America is not broke. Not by a long shot. The country is awash in wealth and cash. It's just that it's not in your hands. It has been transferred, in the greatest heist in history, from the workers and consumers to the banks and the portfolios of the uber-rich. read on |
Democracy Now |
The environmental contamination and human health risk associated with the extraction of natural gas using horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," was little known across the United States for years, until a documentary film brought the issue to the national stage. Josh Fox directed the film Gasland, which chronicles the devastation affecting communities where fracking is taking place and the influence of the natural gas industry over regulation of the techniques and chemicals used in the process. Watch/Listen/Read In their coverage of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's attempt to undermine public workers' unions, many journalists have parroted Walker's claim that unionized state workers get their pensions "subsidized" by the state. We speak with investigative reporter and Pulitzer Prize-winner David Cay Johnston, who counters the assertion that pensions are costing taxpayers by pointing out that the workers themselves contribute 100 percent in deferred compensation. Twitter and Texas Gov. Rick Perry |
In a move that runs counter to the open nature of Twitter, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has blocked several members of the Texas media from accessing his Twitter account. Politico / 2012 Live: During a sitdown with reporters Monday, the Texas governor incorrectly identified Juarez -- located across the Rio Grande, and border, from El Paso -- as "the most dangerous city in America." http://twitter.com/GovernorPerry *He also tweeted this photo of he and Bo Obama at the WHOTUS |
Want to Boycott the Koch Brothers' Products? Here's Where to Start |
Want to boycott the Koch Brothers' products and not have your money going to support the Tea Party, more dirty polluting political shenanigans, attacks on workers rights to organize? Here's a quick list of the companies you should be avoiding.
Anything That Georgia-Pacific Produces First are Georgia-Pacific consumer products: Angel Soft, Quilted Northern, and Soft n Gentle toilet paper; Brawny paper towels; any of the Dixie plates, bowls and napkins; Sparkle, Vanity Fair and Zee napkins; Georgia-Pacific's paper products.
Frankly, many dedicated TreeHugger readers caring about buying post-consumer recycled paper products or (better) using reusable alternatives are probably already avoiding these brands. But if you're not, start. more here Jim Hightower | The Kochs and the Guv Stir Up a Hornets' Nest Jim Hightower, Truthout: "Thank you, Scott Walker! And you, too, Charles and David Koch! Thanks for being so ham-handed in pushing your self-serving, virulently anti-union agenda on the schoolteachers, health care workers, park rangers and other public employees of Wisconsin. The Birchite billionaire Koch brothers and Walker, their gubernatorial hatchet man in the Badger State, have unwittingly done a tremendous favor for our country's progressive movement. Thanks to them, America's workaday majority has been awakened." Read the Article |

| Maddow Calls Fox News 'Chamber Of Horrors,' Says She Misses Olbermann In Howard Kurtz Interview |
In an interview with Newsweek's Howard Kurtz, Rachel Maddow called Fox News a "a McCarthyite chamber of horrors" and discussed Keith Olbermann's departure from MSNBC. Kurtz framed Maddow as the new face and most high-profile voice of the network in the wake of Keith Olbermann's departure. (She is now MSNBC's most veteran prime-time host, having been on the air for a little under two-and-a-half years.) MSNBC President Phil Griffin seemed to agree with this assessment, calling Maddow's program "our biggest show." read now |
