Local ways to help refugee children |
Denton: Supplies for Migrant Children Drive July 9 - July 17 1421 N. Elm, Suite 101, Denton Catholic Charities and the Human Rights Initiative of North Texas are collecting supplies for the Migrant Children who will be hosted at DFW locations. They have requested Toiletry or Activity filled boxes (list follows). Please bring your items in a plastic box or shoe box size. Toiletries Box: Shampoo, conditioner, body wash/bar soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, hair ties, deodorant, Chapstick, and a small toy. Activity Box: Choose from: Puzzle, Composition Book, Stress Ball, Playing Cards/Card Games/magic cards, Coloring Books/Activity Books, Crayons, Mechanical pencils, Hot wheel car, Barbie Doll, Small Bible (English/Spanish), Small Lego set, Educational Flash Cards. Also needed are diapers, feminine hygiene products, and toilet paper. Catholic Charities and the Human Rights Initiative are also seeking individual donations, or gift cards to Target or AMC Theatres. Texas Alliance for Retired Americans organizing and planing ALEC response - need you to help!! |
Retirees Calling! Activists with the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans called hundreds of retirees during the previous week. They are encouraged everyone to oppose ALEC on July 30th. They are also trying to help coordinate travel from other areas. The Tarrant County Central Labor Council is organizing a bus. They are asking people to sign up to arrive at UAW 218, 98 W Hurst Blvd in Hurst, before 10AM on July 30. They expect to be back in Hurst before 3 PM. There are efforts to organize transportation in the Austin and Houston areas as well. On-line mobilizing is strong. Retirees are posting two good videos on ALEC.
