Memo: From Nick Hanauer

To:
My Fellow Zillionaires

You probably don't know me, but like you I am one of those .01%ers, a proud and unapologetic capitalist. I have founded, co-founded and funded more than 30 companies across a range of industries-from itsy-bitsy ones like the night club I started in my 20s to giant ones like Amazon.com, for which I was the first nonfamily investor.

Protesters During National Mayor's Conference

Activists from the "Our Community, Our Schools" coalition brought their anti-privatization message to 254 mayors assembled at the Omni Hotel on June 20. Five television cameras focused on NAACP President Juanita Wallace, Jobs with Justice Co-Coordinator Rosemarie Rieger, Reverend Ed Middleton, and Texas Alliance for Retired Americans President Gene Lantz as we publicly asked Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings to "BACK OFF!" on privatization!

News coverage included "Dallas ISD home-rule opponents bash selections for charter commission" http://www.wfaa.com/news/education/Despite-opposition-home-rule-initiative-alive-and-well-264068511.html

and the Dallas Morning News'
http://www.dallasnews.com/news/education/headlines/20140620-home-rule-commission-is-in-place-to-write-charter-for-disd.ece

By coincidence, the protesters were directly across the street from the driveway at the Omni, where the mayors were loaded on buses and taken out with motorcycle escorts. Each bus drove directly toward the protest, then turned so that the mayors received a full view of our action.

Don't shred on me: TX music lovers mock gun enthusiasts with Open Carry Guitar Rally July4th Dallas

Music lovers plan to exercise their right to openly carry guitars at a July 4 rally in Texas.

"This is my sense of humor," said event organizer Barry Kooda, a musician who's played for years around Austin. "I have a larger following than I'd like because I'm just the local yokel."

Andrew Bacevich: Chaos in Iraq

Bill Moyers, Moyers & Company: While armchair warriors in Washington cry "back to Iraq," former combat veteran and military historian Andrew Bacevich says no way. "Our foreign policy establishment does not take war seriously," he said. "It assumes that the creation of precision guided weapons makes war manageable."

ALEC in Dallas!

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is coming to Dallas from July 30th to August 1st.

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is coming to Dallas from July 30th to August 1st. ALEC wines and dines state politicians and corporate lobbyists behind closed doors where they work together to rewrite our laws without any public input. It's time we send a message to these out-of-touch politicians that they are supposed to work for us, not out-of-state companies.

These industry-backed laws help privatize our schools, make it more difficult to vote and expand tax cuts for the rich, just to name a few. The laws are written by lobbyists, passed often without any changes made and benefit corporations at the expense of you and me.

Let's send a message to ALEC that we will not let Texas be assaulted!
