Arrest Exxon event

What? Press conference & protest of ExxonMobil at their Shareholders Meeting

When? 8:15 a.m., May 28, 2014...

Where? Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St., Dallas, TX

Why? In solidarity with the Global Climate Convergence's call for environmental justice, economic/political democracy and a livable planet for our children and future generations, as well as demanding the end of a fossil fuel based economy which is destroying both our planet and democracy, activists/citizens from all quarters will be coming to Dallas, May 28th, to call for a "citizens arrest" of ExxonMobil and its corporate leaders for their crimes against humanity and the planet. Fossil fuel companies must be held accountable for raping the resources of other nations, killing communities and their environments in the pursuit of profits, and undermining democracy worldwide by corrupting government leaders into allowing them to have "carte blanche" in accessing oil and gas resources. They must answer for the sickness and death caused worldwide through environmental contamination and overt violence and for the destruction of the Earth's biosphere and the hope of a livable future. ARREST EXXON!

Co-sponsored by DFW System Change Not Climate Change, Texas Action Coaliton for the Environment, Dallas MoveOn, Tar Sands Blockade, Code Pink Greater Dallas, Dallas Left Alliance,Veterans For Peace Chapter 106, Solidarity, Dallas Peace Center, Pax Christi Dallas, Fort Worth MoveOn Council

Fort Worth Seniors to Report on National Convention

Our next Monthly meeting of the Ft Worth Alliance for Retired Americans will be this Wednesday, May 21st. There will be a report on the National Convention and a discussion of future ARA plans. Among the issues are the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) Dallas July meeting, and voting rights.

The decision to suspend last month's meeting in order join 1,200 seniors at the rally at the Dallas AT&T headquarters proved to be a good idea. The rally was a great success and an important event in our fight to halt the erosion of retiree benefit. Among the speakers were Ray Kramer, who initiated the call for the rally, and Gene Lantz, President of the Texas ARA.

Springtime for Bankers

By any normal standard, economic policy since the onset of the financial crisis has been a dismal failure. It's true that we avoided a full replay of the Great Depression. But employment has taken more than six years to claw its way back to pre-crisis levels - years when we should have been adding millions of jobs just to keep up with a rising population. Long-term unemployment is still almost three times as high as it was in 2007; young people, often burdened by college debt, face a highly uncertain future.

Attend the Dallas AFL-CIO Labor Council hear more about home rule and ALEC in Dallas !

Dallas Has Lively Labor Council Meetings

Members of affiliated unions are invited to Dallas AFL-CIO Labor Council meetings at 7:30 PM on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 1408 N Washington. They're getting more exciting every month. On May 16, County Judge Clay Jenkins and Democratic Candidate Susan Motley gave quick presentations. Both of them thanked the union members that had been door-knocking and telephoning on their behalf. Judge Jenkins drew a standing ovation for his efforts to increase the earning power of Dallas workers and thus boost the local economy. AFL-CIO leader Mark York called attention to State Legislature District 105, where Motley is running a hot race, as one of the most important races in the May 27 primary runoff election.

Delegates received their first opportunity to welcome the new full-time Mobillization Coordinator, Pam Resendiz, to our Council and to Dallas. Resendiz should be contacted about any upcoming labor activities. William Cox asked for turnout for OUR WALMART on June 3. Judy Bryant said that the Alliance for Retired Americans wants everybody to help protest ALEC on July 30. Rosemarie Rieger reported on the far-reaching efforts of our Community Outreach committee. Rieger will be employed part-time by the AFL-CIO. Bret St Clare talked about building the labor movement and said "We are moving mountains right now!"

The Council endorsed the resolution against the American Legislative Exchange Council that was published last week. The Council also endorsed a resolution against home rule charter district. Read & copy the petition for your own organizations HERE

It ends: "THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Dallas Central Labor Council stands in opposition to the 'home rule' proposal, rejects its underlying agenda of privatizing public schools, and will fight to defeat it."
