Al Jazeera America announces Dallas bureau |
Al Jazeera America has formally announced the 12 U.S. bureaus that will be up and running when it launches on August 20th.
The bureaus, first reported by POLITICO back in May, are: Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.
Former YNN Austin evening and weekend news anchor Heidi Zhou Castro will be based out of the new Al Jazeera bureau in Dallas

Aug. 10th, Judge Bonnie Goldstein and Michael Handley will talk U.S. Supreme Court's strike down of Section 4 of Voting Rights Act and Texas | For the Democratic Network Forum on Saturday morning, Aug. 10th, Judge Bonnie Goldstein and Michael Handley will talk about the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to strike down Section 4 of Voting Rights Act and Texas' immediately decision to start enforcement of its Voter Photo I.D. Law, which had been blocked by District Court order in August 2012. The forum discussion will cover SCOTUS' decision, the new Photo I.D. voting requirements, and what steps political organizations and candidates planning to run in 2014 should take to prepare for photo I.D. law enforcement for the 2014 Primary and General Elections, if further court action does not block its implementation. Judge Goldstein and Michael will also cover continuing efforts to block the photo I.D law through court action, status of legislative efforts to reauthorize VRA Sec 4, and what Deputy Voter Registrars can do to make sure the people they register have information about the photo I.D law. Texas is the state with the biggest share of its people uninsured -- 23.8 percent in 2011, according to the Census Bureau. Mentor2.0 program details: - Primary interaction with your DHS mentee over a secure proprietary email system for about 30 minutes a week - One in person visit every six weeks at mentee's school (these dates are set well in advance) - Emails will correspond with Dunbar's Programs of Choice curriculum in the areas of Engineering, Aviation, and Business Marketing. Mentees and mentors receive prompts from Big Brothers Big Sisters to help with email conversations - Emails over the summer or holidays are not required but encouraged and allowed on the monitored BBBS platform - No cost to the mentor - An easy commitment which can be done at work, home, at the airport in a transit lounge! Steps to enrolling: - Fill out the application online which takes about 30 minutes, but can be saved and you can come back to complete it. Twitter users who posted messages criticizing Texas Republican leaders have been subpoenaed by the Department of Public Safety | Two Twitter users who posted messages criticizing Texas Republican leaders for recently passed abortion restrictions have been subpoenaed by the Department of Public Safety in the investigation of a "terroristic threat." The subpoena (below), acquired by the San Antonio Express-News, was sent to Twitter from DPS Agent Jason McMurray of Tyler on July 25.
