Today, Current announced that the pair will debut this Monday morning, March 26, and that their shows will also feature live hourly news breaks. Current will simulcast both hosts' radio programs, with Press' Current broadcast to be dubbed Full Court Press, while Miller's show will be called Talking Liberally: The Stephanie Miller Show. Democracy Now |
In his new article, "Bank of America: Too Crooked to Fail," Rolling Stone reporter Matt Taibbi chronicles the remarkable history of the rise of Bank of America, an institution he says has defrauded "everyone from investors and insurers to homeowners and the unemployed." Taibbi describes how the Bush and Obama administrations have repeatedly propped up the financial institution, which received a $45 billion taxpayer bailout in 2008. Bank of America has also received billions in what could be described as shadow bailouts. Watch/Listen/Read As President Obama heads to Oklahoma today to announce the fast-tracking of the southern portion of the Keystone XL oil pipeline from Oklahoma to Texas, we speak with 350.org's Bill McKibben. The pipeline approval comes two months after Obama rejected a proposal for the 1,300-mile Keystone XL pipeline from the Alberta tar sands oil fields to Texas after large protests by environmental groups. It also comes at a time when much of the nation is experiencing a heat wave that some scientists and meteorologists have linked to climate change. Watch/Listen/Read A new exposé in Wired Magazine reveals details about how the National Security Agency is quietly building the largest spy center in the country in Bluffdale, Utah, as part of a secret NSA surveillance program codenamed "Stellar Wind." We speak with investigative reporter James Bamford, who says the NSA has established listening posts throughout the nation to collect and sift through billions of email messages and phone calls, whether they originate within the country or overseas . Hydro-Fracking: Dallas Residents, Property Values at Risk | Don't Let the Dallas City Council Roll Back Protections for Homeowners, Public Park Lands and the Trinity River Citywide Organizing Meeting on Gas Drilling in Dallas Tuesday, March 27th 7 to 8:30 pm Center for Community Cooperation 2900 Live Oak Dallas, TX 75204 1. Keep Drilling Away From People, Parks Based on the noise, fumes, pollution, and vibration caused by gas drilling, we need a guaranteed 1000-3000 foot buffer zone between fracking wells and our homes, schools, and workplaces. The gas drilling task force had recommended 1000 feet for months, but reversed itself during its very last meeting and voted for only 500 feet in some cases-less than any other major city in D/FW! We must fight for protections where we live, work, worship and play. The current city ordinance prohibits drilling inside publicly-owned parklands. After backing the current ordinance for months, the gas drilling task force reversed itself during its final meeting and voted to roll this back as well. We must protect Dallas parklands! The current ordinance also prohibits drilling inside the Trinity River flood plain. The gas drilling task force proposed that since Dallas has historically dumped in the flood plains, it would be OK to allow fracking there as well. We can't add modern insult to historical injury. 2. Dallas Water For Drinking, Not Drilling Each new gas well can use millions gallons of water, all of which is permanently contaminated and is disposed of in special waste sites. Dallas should charge drilling companies more for water that cannot be reused, and restrict water during Stage 3 drought conditions. Gas companies are also trucking Dallas water out of town for fracking in other cities. We must protect our water for Dallas residents! 3. Don't Make Bad Air Worse Dallas has a commitment to clean up our chronic air pollution. If the city doesn't treat the gas industry the same as other polluting industries in the region, that commitment will go up in smoke! The gas drilling task force has urged the city to look for ways that air pollution from fracking should be balanced out so Dallas will keep its clean air promise. 4. Full Disclosure of Toxic Risks Gas companies can keep the full list of toxic chemicals they use hidden, calling it their "trade secret." Our first responders are on the front lines every day and will be put at high risk of exposure to these toxic chemicals, but not even Dallas police, firefighters and medical professionals would be given this information until after an accident occurs! 5. 24/7 Effective Oversight Experience has shown that relying on state and federal bureaucracies to regulate fracking operations will be a failure. Dallas must establish its own industry-funded office of gas drilling oversight with enough trained personnel, equipped with the latest technology, to be able Dallas Residents at Risk is: Texas Campaign for the Environment-Mountain Creek Neighborhood Alliance-Down winders at Risk-Dallas Area Residents for Responsible Drilling-Earthworks' Oil & Gas Accountability Project-Dallas Sierra Club Contact Zac Trahan, 214-599-7840 zac@texasenvironment.org For more information, visit www.dcccd.edu/SustainabilitySummit or contact Georgeann Moss at 214-378-1823. |

IFC Orders 10 Episodes of Marc Maron's Single-Camera Comedy | Standup comedian and former Air America host Marc Maron has established himself as one of the premiere comedy podcasters and defining voices in the emerging genre with his WTF With Marc Maron, which features funny, intimate and in-depth interviews with everyone from Louis C.K. to Janeane Garofalo to Judd Apatow to Gallagher (who infamously walked out halfway through). Holder speaks at LGBT Safe Schools Conference in Texas | ARLINGTON, Texas - Joshua Little was too young in middle school to understand much about his sexuality, and name-calling by some of his classmates only confused him more. "People would call me 'gay,'" said Little, who didn't know what the word meant. "I was like, 'I don't know. Why are you calling me this?'" Little, now 21 and a senior at the University of Texas at Arlington, has firsthand experience with the type of harassment, bullying and discrimination that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder on Tuesday said the Obama administration is determined to stop. Ethics .gov launched by White House | What is Ethics.gov? President Obama promised he would "create a centralized Internet database of lobbying reports, ethics records, and campaign finance filings in a searchable, sortable, and downloadable format." Today, with the launch of www.Ethics.gov, he's delivering on that promise. Ethics.gov takes an important step to increase transparency and accountability by making this information available and accessible in one central location. | Too Big To Bank There | We have finally reached the point in our financial history where even bankers hate bankers. Last week, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas issued its 2011 annual report with a 34-page essay, "Why We Must End Too Big To Fail-Now." The report stops short of calling our nation's largest banks terrorists, but it does dub them "a clear and present danger to the U.S. economy." It begins with a letter from regional Fed president Richard Fisher. "More than half of banking industry assets are on the books of just five institutions," he complains. "They were a primary culprit in magnifying the financial crisis, and their presence continues to play an important role in prolonging our economic malaise." read on Wall Street Journal

2nd Annual DCCCD Sustainability Summit | Trammell S. Crow keynotes 2nd Annual DCCCD Sustainability Summit "What is sustainability, and why should I care?" was the question of the day at Dallas County Community College District's inaugural Sustainability Summit last year. This year's event will address how individuals, the local business community and educational institutions will benefit from beginning their own journey toward sustainability and adopting the concept of the "triple" bottom line (the idea that actions must be good for people, the planet and everyone's wallet). Former DCCCD Board of Trustees member Trammell S. Crow will keynote the district's second annual Sustainability Summit at Eastfield College on Thurs., April 5, 2012. Crow is a native Dallasite and serves as chairman of the Trammell and Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Art from Yale University and is active in education, social issues and business. He supports myriad conservation and environmental efforts both locally and nationally, including Earth Day Dallas. A father of four, Crow is actively involved with various groups, including League of Conservation Voters, Republicans for Environmental Protection, the Nature Conservancy of Texas, Texas Business for Clean Air and Texas Land Conservancy. Summit participants can choose from five tracks that address these topics: Zero Waste -A zero waste system is one in which all discarded materials are designed to become resources for others to use. Nature is a zero waste system, but is it really possible for businesses or municipalities to achieve zero waste? Have any achieved that goal? Will achieving zero waste cost more or boost profits? In this session, attendees can learn how to change practices to emulate sustainable natural cycles. Local Report Card - What are North Texas' challenges and opportunities related to water, air quality, mobility and climate change? Sustainable Careers - What are some of the hot new "green" careers and, where is training offered? Sustainable Schools and Colleges - Find out what University of Texas at Arlington, Irving Independent School District and others are doing to "green" their campuses. Sustainable Homes -Where can everyone exercise their right to choose a more sustainable future for their children and grandchildren? At home, of course! Learn how to reduce fossil fuel usage and energy costs, and to conserve water and other natural resources, to preserve our quality of life for future generations. Registration The conference is free for DCCCD students and staff, plus community members. Everyone who pre-registers online by 5 p.m. on April 3 will be eligible for special door prizes. Proceeds of the conference will benefit EDD, Inc., a Texas non-profit organization. For more information, visit www.dcccd.edu/SustainabilitySummit or contact Georgeann Moss at 214-378-1823. |

| Lobbyists, Guns and Money By PAUL KRUGMAN NY Times | Florida's now-infamous Stand Your Ground law, which lets you shoot someone you consider threatening without facing arrest, let alone prosecution, sounds crazy - and it is. And it's tempting to dismiss this law as the work of ignorant yahoos. But similar laws have been pushed across the nation, not by ignorant yahoos but by big corporations. read on

Need volunteers for harvesting fresh vegetables for food pantries | We can always use an extra hand or two with harvesting and getting produce delivered to local food pantries. These donations help alleviate hunger for families that have lost jobs, for seniors and children, and for neighborhood residents that are struggling in these hard times.
Most of the families that have garden plots come from needy neighborhoods, and see community gardening as a way for people to work together to help each other. They grow food for themselves and for others. They help train and educate families and children that come to participate and learn. These community gardens are vital to building strong revitalized communities that can tackle issues like hunger and poverty together.
HARVESTING Hope Community Garden -- every Sunday at 4 pm 1108 Cristler, Dallas 75223
Our Savior Community Garden -- every Tuesday at 9:30 am 1616 N Jim Miller Rd, Dallas 75217
If you would like to help pick and transport produce to food pantries please contact GICD.
GARDEN WORKDAYS/TRAININGS
To get notification of workdays at various community gardens, which always include "hands-on training" sessions, please send a request to be on the "Email List of Activities" to GICD. Also go to GICD's website and check our Calendar HERE
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Please contact GICD to volunteer for harvest times, or to schedule helping out on Saturdays. Individuals, groups, and families are welcome.
