2 Channels, and Anchor Who Set Liberal Tone

Current TV was co-founded by a former Democratic vice president, but it took Keith Olbermann to give the cable channel its liberal identity.

As he did at MSNBC before it, Mr. Olbermann established himself as Current TV's star anchor - more than quadrupling the channel's prime-time average - in addition to emboldening the network to recast itself in his own political image, furthering the trend of point-of-view television news that the Fox News Channel is credited with starting in the 1990s.

Al Franken Warns Facebook, Google Users: 'You Are Their Product'

Web giants are becoming too big to care, Senator Al Franken warned Thursday.

Franken argued that the growing dominance of companies such as Facebook and Google risks making them immune to market pressure and more likely to violate users' privacy in the quest for profits.

In a speech delivered Thursday to the American Bar Association, Franken maintained that privacy should be treated as an antitrust issue, noting that Americans' right to privacy "can be a casualty of anti-competitive practices online."

"The more dominant these companies become over the sectors in which they operate, the less incentive they have to respect your privacy," Franken said. "[W]hen companies become so dominant that they can violate their users' privacy without worrying about market pressure, all that's left is the incentive to get more and more information about you. That's a big problem if you care about privacy, and it's a problem that the antitrust community should be talking about."

MoveOn 99% Spring Action Training

We're at a crossroads as a country. In recent years, millions have lost their jobs, homes have been foreclosed, and an unconscionable number of children live in poverty. We have to stand up to the people who caused of all this and confront the rampant greed and deliberate manipulation of our democracy and our economy by a tiny minority in the 1%.

Inspired by Occupy Wall Street and the fight for workers in Madison, Wisconsin, the 99% will rise up this spring. In the span of just one week, from April 9-15, 100,000 people will be trained to tell the story of what happened to our economy, learn the history of non-violent direct action, and use that knowledge to take action on our own campaigns to win change.

We'll gather for trainings in homes, community centers, places of worship, campuses, and public spaces nationwide to learn how to join together in the work of reclaiming our country through sustained non-violent action.

Will you rise with us and join a 99% Spring action training?

Texas Voter ID laws ..what's wrong this picture ?

Pink Slime Economics

By PAUL KRUGMAN

The big bad event of last week was, of course, the Supreme Court hearing on health reform. In the course of that hearing it became clear that several of the justices, and possibly a majority, are political creatures pure and simple, willing to embrace any argument, no matter how absurd, that serves the interests of Team Republican.

But we should not allow events in the court to completely overshadow another, almost equally disturbing spectacle. For on Thursday Republicans in the House of Representatives passed what was surely the most fraudulent budget in American history.

Occupy Dallas  returns to Pioneer Plaza Park

Occupy Dallas joined families and civic groups in beautification, recycling and clean-up activities at Pioneer Plaza Park, where their movement started on October 6th 2011, for annual initiative to encourage citizens to help enhance parks citywide.

In case you thought the Occupy Dallas movement disappeared, it did not.

Pete Rokicki has been with Occupy Dallas since the beginning, and says even though they were evicted from their Occupy Dallas campsite last year, the movement hasn't stopped.

"We've never really been gone, our organization has maintained itself since the raid," said Rokicki.

Today, dozens of protesters returned to Pioneer Park near Dallas City Hall, to clean it up, and make a new statement.

"Since they were all kicked out of here, Pioneer park by the Mayor and by the police and we are not allowed to stay here overnight, we came back to clean it up," said Rokicki.
