Help local Democrats help tornado victims |
Garland Area Democrats are gathering volunteers to help with the tornado damage. We all are intensely sadden by the loss of life and devastation of Saturday's storms. Members and neighbors have been affected. The city of Garland has set up volunteer efforts in our community. Jack and I thought if we could get at least 10 of our members/friends to volunteer to help we would add our club's name to the list of organizations that could offer assistance. If you can volunteer either time or resources please let me know ASAP." Email Joy Brady to jbrady1716 AT gmail.com. |

Dallas struggles to overcome segregated legacy |
DALLAS - By most accounts, census tract 166.05 is not a particularly desirable place to live. Tucked between two major highways in southwest Dallas, the neighborhood is characterized by clusters of ramshackle, one-story houses, huge swaths of vacant land and big warehouses and storage centers. http://is.gd/0PPgm1 |

| Elections Have Consequences | Elections Have Consequences You have to be seriously geeky to get excited when the Internal Revenue Service releases a new batch of statistics. Well, I'm a big geek; like quite a few other people who work on policy issues, I was eagerly awaiting the I.R.S.'s tax tables for 2013, which were released last week. And what these tables show is that elections really do have consequences. | http://is.gd/etTH6M |
Gun-Friendly Texas Is Getting Even Friendlier |
Texas is so gun-friendly that it is easier to get into the Capitol in Austin with a firearm than without one - licensed, gun-carrying lawmakers and members of the public have their own no-wait security lane, and the unarmed masses have to stand in line and slog through the metal detectors. http://is.gd/XXVQAg
