Can you imagine having no air conditioning ? Salvation Army needs fans for senior citizens TODAY!! |
Organizer at Random Acts of Kindness writes ..Last week The Salvation Army put out an appeal for fans and our center received 30 which were gone in a matter of days. With the continued hot weather we have more people facing that need. Yesterday I had the opportunity to deliver our very last fan to a senior citizen that came to us with that need. In his little two room apartment, with meager furnishings, the blinds were pulled shut to help keep out the sun and when I plugged in the fan he was so very grateful just to have the air circulating and expressed repeatedly how grateful he was for that gift of a fan.Nancy Kerley Volunteer Supervisor The Salvation Army Carr P Collins Social Service Center5302 Harry Hines Blvd.,Dallas, Texas 75235

Grassroots activists have worked for years, with limited success, to draw attention to the Dallas Police Department's use of deadly force - especially fatal shootings of African Americans. HERE |

| Republicans Against Retirement | Something strange is happening in the Republican primary - something strange, that is, besides the Trump phenomenon. For some reason, just about all the leading candidates other than The Donald have taken a deeply unpopular position, a known political loser, on a major domestic policy issue. And it's interesting to ask why. The issue in question is the future of Social Security, which turned 80 last week. The retirement program is, of course, both extremely popular and a long-term target of conservatives, who want to kill it precisely because its popularity helps legitimize government action in general. As the right-wing activist Stephen Moore (now chief economist of the Heritage Foundation) once declared, Social Security is "the soft underbelly of the welfare state"; "jab your spear through that" and you can undermine the whole thing. | read |
Superrich Donors Turn Our Democracy Into Their Plutocracy |
Once upon a time in our Good Ol' US-of-A, presidential contenders and their political parties had to raise the funds needed to make the race. How quaint. But for the 2016 run, this quaint way of selecting our candidates is no longer the case, thanks to the Supreme Court's malicious meddling in the democratic process in its reckless Citizens United decision. In that decision, the five members of the Corporate Cabal decreed that "non-candidate" campaigns can take unlimited sums of money directly from corporations. Therefore a very few wealthy powers can pour money into these murky political operations and gain unwarranted plutocratic power over the election process. read on
