92-Year-Old Texas Woman Jailed for Protesting Pro-Fracking State Law |
92-year-old Violet Palmer of Denton, Texas said she was moved to act after the state, overriding the will of the people, passed a law forbidding municipalities from enacting fracking bans. On Tuesday, Palmer, her 64-year-old son Theron, and a small group of activists were arrested for protesting at the gates of the first new drilling site in Denton since residents voted overwhelmingly to ban the practice last November. http://bit.ly/1Cov9OL

| Liberal Drinking Club Celebrates 10 Years in Addison |
When most people in Dallas think of Addison, they usually think of the $30k millionaires, or sometimes the real millionaires, who typically lean to the right in the political spectrum. But many do not realize, a beacon of liberalism has been meeting continuously among its high rises and high paid CEOs for the past decade. The Addison chapter of Drinking Liberally will be celebrating its 10th birthday on June 23rd. Drinking Liberally began in New York City in 2003 as a reaction to ultra conservative values taking over the mainstream. People were frustrated and wanted to talk to each other about it. What better way to do that, than to do it while sharing a pint with your buddies and new friends read on ... http://bit.ly/1TI6WxF Join the chapter at Taco Cabana, 15239 Montfort Drive in Dallas on Tuesday June 23rd starting at 5:30pm for the 10 year celebration and some liberal libations. |

Why 2016 Is So Very Important in New Yorker |
A new model concludes that, with a good result next year-including a takeover of the White House-the Republican Party could virtually sweep the board. Like my colleague George Packer and many others, I feel some trepidation about the upcoming 2016 Presidential election. What with the sheer length of the process, the obscene amounts of money involved, and the prospect of another Bush vs. Clinton contest following the primaries, it's not surprising that a lot of Americans, and particularly progressives, aren't exactly enthused. http://nyr.kr/1TI5b3x |

| Slavery's Long Shadow Paul Krugman | America is a much less racist nation than it used to be, and I'm not just talking about the still remarkable fact that an African-American occupies the White House. The raw institutional racism that prevailed before the civil rights movement ended Jim Crow is gone, although subtler discrimination persists. Individual attitudes have changed, too, dramatically in some cases. For example, as recently as the 1980s half of Americans opposed interracial marriage, a position now held by only a tiny minority.

Updated Guide to Mass Shootings in America | This guide by Mother Jones has been updated numerous times to include information on recurring mass shooting that involved the murder of Americans in houses of worship, schools, work places, and public places. Please note, the majority of weapons used in these murders were purchased legally and .."More than half of the cases involved school or workplace shootings." "Weapons: Of the 143 guns possessed by the killers, more than three quarters were obtained legally. The arsenal included dozens of assault weapons and semi-automatic handguns with high-capacity magazines." http://bit.ly/1CopAQ5

Texas To Build Very Own Gold Stash |
And Glenn Beck isn't even governor! Texas is pretty busy checking off items on its rightwing-obsession bucket list. It's got open carry for handguns, voter ID to keep the Wrong People from voting, it's aggressively not regulating chemical plants, and since you never know when the impending collapse of America is coming, it wants to pump up all the oil right away. http://bit.ly/1Coqzjj
