Yiliana Perez was midway through her shift at the Southwestern Women's Surgery Center when her boyfriend showed up. It was a surprise visit. He had dropped her off at the Greenville Avenue abortion clinic, where she works as a medical assistant, at 6:45 that morning, and he wasn't scheduled to pick her up until mid-afternoon. Yet, just before noon, here he was hurrying into the lobby, saying they needed to talk. read |

Throughout the booms and busts of his Fort Worth oil empire and during his brother's notorious murder trial, Kenneth W. Davis Jr. largely kept to himself. At 89, he still does. read on |

| Trillion Dollar Fraudsters Paul Krugman | Trillion Dollar Fraudsters Paul Krugman By now it's a Republican Party tradition: Every year the party produces a budget that allegedly slashes deficits, but which turns out to contain a trillion-dollar "magic asterisk" - a line that promises huge spending cuts and/or revenue increases, but without explaining where the money is supposed to come from. | read |

Labor Works to Save Jobs from Outsourcing | Herb Keener of Communications Workers Local 6215 updated the Central Labor Council on our efforts to stop the government and corporate lobbyists from making the Trans Pacific Partnership part of U.S. law. We also oppose any "fast track" undemocratic bill that would let the TPP slide through Congress with little debate, no amendments, and a fast "up or down" vote before anybody even knows what's in it. Keener told the union reps that advocates for the TPP are lying when they say that labor is divided on the issue. Actually, Keener revealed, every union is totally opposed to it. Like the other so-called "free trade agreements," the TPP supporters promise that it will help American workers, but they were lying all the other times and there's no reason to expect that the TPP will be any different. Working people across America are writing letters and calling Congresspersons to oppose the TPP. Keener said the Congressional Switchboard number is 202-224-3121. When you get them, ask for your member of Congress and they will transfer. The Council agreed to adopt Thursdays as our special day to make calls. President Kym Grant of the Dallas AFL-CIO will lead other progressive organizations in publicly protesting the budget proposal at 2 PM Friday, March 27, at the Social Security office at 2530 Malcolm X Blvd in Dallas. Other speakers include John Fullinwider of the Dallas Peace Center, Rosemarie Rieger of North Texas Jobs with Justice, Juanita Wallace of the NAACP, and Gene Lantz of the Texas Alliance for Retired Americans. Everyone is invited.
