Light a Fire Event at the Bellamy Compound - November 19 benefiting Trevor Project

Friday, November 19, 6-8:30 p.m., join us at the spectacular Bellamy

Compound,1918 N. Prairie Avenue.

Let's light a fire in the hearts of our educators to teach tolerance and acceptance of those with differences.

Donation: $25 at the door.(Please make check out to either the Trevor Project or Youth First Texas) RSVP at Facebook page ..

The purpose of the event is to bring people working with our youth together to address the issues of this persecution that is so devastating that some see suicide as the only alternative. The funds raised will be donated to service organizations The Trevor Project and Youth First Texas, who are on the front lines working with this population helping them see the finality of suicide and that with help it will get better. It is our desire to raise awareness in the community of people that have front line contact with those that are being crushed by this pain. We hope to have in attendance School Principals, Teachers, Counselors and PTA Members. Please invite anyone working with this at-risk population to come and learn what can be done. They will not be charged to attend.

Peace Activists Target Bush Memoir in Bookstores- Dallas Featured !

A group of U.S. peace activists have launched a guerrilla campaign to disrupt sales of former President George W. Bush's new memoir, Decision Points. The blog, Waging Nonviolence, has called on supporters to move copies of the book into the "Crime" section of stores where it's sold. On Tuesday, a group of demonstrators rallied at a Dallas bookstore as Bush signed copies of the book inside. The protesters called for Bush's arrest for authorizing torture and the war on Iraq. "The People's Response" to the Bush Liebrary

Stand up for the truth when the Worst President Ever breaks ground for his Presidential Center

Here's a perfect place to channel all your post-election outrage and fighting spirit.  Join the Dallas Peace Center for a march and rally this Tuesday, November 16th, at 9:00 am.  We will meet at the DART Mockingbird Station and march to the NW corner of Mockingbird and Airline Road.  Please wear BLACK.

Some of the fabulous speakers for the rally are:

Hadi Jawad - local activist and winner of the Dallas Peace Center Peacemaker of the Year

Lon Burnam - Texas State Representative

Ann Wright - former Colonel in the US Army and Foreign Service Officer in the Department of State for 16 years

Ray McGovern - US Army Intelligence Officer; Directorate of Intelligence CIA for 30 years

Medea Benjamin - co-founder of Code Pink Women for Peace

We need to participate to represent not only our community, but all the activists across the country who share our values and perspectives.  We also want the national media to know that most people in Dallas did not drink the Kool-Aid served up by Karl Rove.

There are several forums this week related to this event.  Tuesday from 2-4 pm there is a "Forum on Torture, Human Rights, and the Law" at the Cathedral of Hope.  The speakers will be Ray McGovern, Marjorie Cohn, Debra Sweet, Ann Wright, and Coleen Rowley.

Rebooting the American Dream: 11 Ways to Rebuild Our Country
By Thom Hartmann

In this new work, Thom Hartmann covers 11 straightforward solutions to America's current problems. At the core of each is a call to reclaim economic sovereignty and to wrest control of democracy back from the corporate powers that have hijacked both America and her citizens.
What's particularly unique about Hartmann's solutions is that all have been proven to work. Every single one of his 11 steps either was historically part of what built America's greatness in the past (such as enforcing the Sherman Act and breaking up big corporations or returning to a tariff-based trade policy), or has worked well in other nations (like a national single-payer healthcare system -Medicare Part "E" for "Everybody"-or encouraging the growth of worker-owned cooperatives like the $6 billion Mondragon cooperative in Spain).
Hartmann's solutions are essentially nonpartisan. Virtually all have been promoted at one time or another in American history by both political parties, although today most (but not all) fall into the realm of "progressive solutions." Both Ralph Nader and Pat Buchanan will find broad areas of agreement with this book.
From addressing the problem of a warming globe to the death of America's middle class to the loss of our essential liberties, Rebooting The American Dream shows how America can reclaim the vision of our Founders and the greatness we held both at home and abroad for over a century.

Thom Hartmann | Rebooting the American Dream: 11 Ways to Rebuild Our Country

Thom Hartmann, Berrett-Koehler Publishers: "Hamilton looked at the nation and determined what needed to be done to rebuild the country after the Revolutionary War had devastated it and subservience to England's Tudor Plan 'free trade' policies had left Americans without any significant domestic industrial base. In the same tradition, this book goes through 11 steps we can take today to rebuild our country in the wake of the devastation of 30 years of Reaganomics, and how we can recover the industrial base we've lost to the 'free trade/flat earth' idiocy of the Reagan-Bush-Clinton-Bush era." Rachel Maddow Interviews Jon Stewart

Right after Bill O'Reilly got a former president on his program, Rachel Maddow had a big guest of her own -- Jon Stewart. Stewart explained his thoughts on the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, as well as why he feels that the cable news networks are missing the point. Stewart's major point was that he thinks the correct fight to pay attention to in society is "corruption vs. not corruption," rather than right vs. left, and that cable news should do more than "amplify that one aspect of the battle."

Commentary: How does Vice President Perry sound?

Rick Perry on the 2012 ticket? Heck, he might have made it in 2008. Months before John McCain won the Republican presidential nomination, early favorite Rudy Giuliani said Perry was "on the top of everybody's list" of running mates.

Who Will Stand Up to the Superrich?

by Frank Rich NYT

IN the aftermath of the Great Democratic Shellacking of 2010, one election night subplot quickly receded into the footnotes: the drubbing received by very wealthy Americans, most of them Republican, who tried to buy Senate seats and governor's mansions. Americans don't hate rich people. They admire and often idolize success. But Californians took a hearty dislike to Meg Whitman, who sacrificed $143 million of her eBay fortune - not to mention her undocumented former housekeeper - to a gubernatorial race she lost by double digits. Connecticut voters K.O.'d the World Wrestling groin-kicker, Linda McMahon, and West Virginians did likewise to the limestone-and-steel magnate John Raese, the senatorial hopeful who told an interviewer without apparent irony, "I made my money the old-fashioned way - I inherited it."
