The Audacity to Win - David Plouffe
Monday, November 9th - 6:00pm to 8:00pm The Progressive Center of Texas is partnering with The Dallas Democratic Forum to host a lecture and book-signing event for David Plouffe, President Obama's former campaign manager, and his new book, The Audacity to Win. David Plouffe worked on several successful Congressional campaigns through the 1990's before going into the private sector doing media messaging. Beginning in 2003, Plouffe and fellow AKP&D partner David Axelrod worked on Barack Obama's 2004 Illinois Senate campaign, beginning his association with Obama. Plouffe worked with Axelrod on the successful 2006 campaign of Deval Patrick for Governor of Massachusetts. After winning the election on November 4th, 2008 Obama credited Plouffe in his acceptance speech, calling him "the unsung hero of this campaign, who built the ...best political campaign, I think, in the history of the United States of America."
Plouffe will be sharing stories from the 2008 campaign and speaking about the campaign strategies developed to create the most innovative campaign in decades - setting the gold standard for campaigning in the 21st century.

| "By the People: The Election of Barack Obama": New Documentary on Barack Obama's Historic Presidential Run *
Tomorrow will mark one year since President Obama's historic election as the nation's first African American president. A new documentary tracks Obama's seemingly improbable road to the White House with an unprecedented look at his campaign. Filmmakers Amy Rice and Alicia Sams began following Obama in May 2006, eight months before he announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination. Their film is as much a look at the campaign behind the scenes as it is at the grassroots movement of supporters that propelled Obama to victory.

"If your latest battle with your H.M.O. has you pounding your head with frustration, 'Sick Around the World' may spur you to more drastic action, like leaving the United States altogether...
" That's how a New York Times reviewer reacted to the report which we are re-airing this Tuesday -- Sick Around the World. It's a journey in search of something that has eluded U.S. lawmakers all year: a health care system that doesn't leave out some 47 million people, and bankrupt others.

Instead to the comical antics of The Stephanie Miller Show, there was a local show, Voices of Montana with Aaron Flint. Great I thought a local show. But they sure talk about Bush a lot, I pondered. Then I went to the KMPT website to see how the new lineup looked. "A new attitude and a great line-up or some of the best conservative talk!" a tag line read. The best conservative talk! Yes, Missoula, it's happened again. | This race was a damaging setback for the hard right. Hoffman had the energetic support of Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Fox as well as big bucks from their political auxiliaries. Furthermore, Hoffman was running not only in a district that Rove himself described as "very Republican" but one that fits the demographics of the incredibly shrinking G.O.P. The 23rd is far whiter than America as a whole - 93 percent versus 74 - with tiny sprinklings of blacks, Hispanics and Asians. It has few immigrants. It's rural. Its income and education levels are below the norm. Only if the district were situated in Dixie - or Utah - could it be a more perfect fit for the narrow American demographic where the McCain-Palin ticket had its sole romps last year.
If the tea party right can't win there, imagine how it might fare in the nation where most Americans live. Some G.O.P. leaders have started to notice. Mitt Romney didn't endorse Hoffman despite right-wing badgering to do so. On Wednesday, Michael Steele dismissed the right's mantra that somehow Hoffman's loss could be called a victory and instead talked up the newly elected Republican governors who won by appealing to independents and moderates. Chris Christie and Bob McDonnell are plenty conservative, but both had rejected Palin's offers to campaign for them. They also avoided the tea party zanies, the fear-mongering National Organization for Marriage and the anti-abortion-rights zealots Hoffman embraced. They positioned themselves as respectful Obama critics, not haters likening him to Hitler | North Texas Democrats : Notes and News | TCU College Democrats and Tarrant County Young DemocratsThe TCU College Democrats and Tarrant County Young Democrats are pleased to present: Kicking Off Decision 2010 Texas: The 2010 Democratic Gubernatorial Candidates Forum Graciously hosted by Texas Christian University. | | | | Obama Faces His Anzio by Paul Krugman NYT
| | This bodes ill for the Democrats in the midterm elections next year - not because voters will reject their agenda, but because all indications are that a year from now unemployment will still be painfully high. And Republicans may well benefit, despite having become the party of no ideas. Which brings me to the Anzio analogy. The World War II battle of Anzio was a classic example of the perils of being too cautious. Allied forces landed far behind enemy lines, catching their opponents by surprise. Instead of following up on this advantage, however, the American commander hunkered down in his beachhead - and soon found himself penned in by German forces on the surrounding hills, suffering heavy casualties. The parallel with current economic policy runs as follows: early this year, President Obama came into office with a strong mandate and proclaimed the need to take bold action on the economy. His actual actions, however, were cautious rather than bold. They were enough to pull the economy back from the brink, but not enough to bring unemployment down. read on | North Dallas Texas Democratic Women | | please get involved!

| House Democrats Who Voted Against the Health Care Bill | Want to know who the 39 Dems were ? You will be surprised ..
Lawmakers in the House voted 220 to 215 on Saturday night to approve a sweeping overhaul of the nation's health care system. Only one Republican voted for the bill, and 39 Democrats opposed it, including 24 members of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition. An overwhelming majority of the Democratic lawmakers who opposed the bill - 31 of the 39 - represent districts that were won by Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, in the 2008 presidential election, and a third of them were freshmen. Nearly all of the fourteen freshmen Democrats who voted "no" represent districts that were previously Republican and are considered vulnerable in 2010. Geographically, 22 lawmakers from southern states formed the largest opposition bloc. Below are details on the Democrats that opposed the health care legislation in the House
