The Yes Men Pull Off Prank Claiming US Chamber of Commerce Had Changed Its Stance on Climate Change
The business community got a shock on Monday when its leading advocacy group appeared to make a startling announcement. A statement purporting to come from the Chamber of Commerce said the group had dropped its opposition to congressional climate change legislation and would now even support taxing carbon emissions. The news wires quickly picked up the story, and within minutes it was being reported on the websites of outlets including the New York Times and Washington Post. It also made its way onto cable news, including the Fox Business Network. It was all a prank pulled off by the Yes Men.

| Get Motivated With George W. Bush | If you've ever wanted motivational tips from the former president of the United States, now's your chance: President George W. Bush will be the featured guest speaker at a Zig Ziglar "Get Motivated!" business seminar at the Fort Worth Convention Center this coming Monday, Oct. 26. The lineup will also include Colin Powell and Rudy Giuliani, both of whom have participated in Ziglar's events before, Giuliani between the end of his mayoral tenure and his presidential run. Laura Bush will join the Ziglar crew for an event in Jacksonville Nov. 2, so it's possible an ongoing affiliation between Ziglar and the Bushes will emerge.

| Air America and Progressive Talk Radio News | From Thom HartmannWe haven't been issuing press releases as this stuff has happened, so if you want to be the one to break the news feel free to put this stuff into your own words... 1. In addition to our commercial Dial-Global syndication, we're now a Pacifica affiliated show, providing a 3-hour live and delayed show to Pacifica non-profit and community stations around the world *with no commercial content* through the Pacifica audioport. 2. We also started doing a TV show - simultaneous with our radio show. We first migrated it to our new channel on YouTube, with whom we started a commercial relationship a few months ago, at www.youtube.com/thomhartmann. The show was picked up last week by Free Speech TV (on Dish Network satellite TV) and is now carried live from 2-3 PM ET following "Democracy Now" and "GritTV." We're also producing a half-hour TV show that will begin in the next week or two on FSTV, with most of its content cut down from our 3-hour radio/TV show. We'll also be offering this half-hour show as a video podcast. 3. We've re-established our relationship with Air America in that they're carrying my show on their Washington DC radio station and on their website. We're working on ways to strengthen that relationship, and pleased to see our name again on their brand new website at www.airamerica.com and that their DC listeners can hear our show on the weekends. (So our show is now "brought to our listeners - and viewers - by Dial-Global, Air America, Pacifica, YouTube, and Free Speech TV"...) | Michael Moore's Action Plan: 15 Things Every American Can Do Right Now | 5 things to demand Obama and Congress to do immediately, 5 things the politicians must hear from us, 5 things we should do to protect ourselves and family.
Friends, It's the #1 question I'm constantly asked after people see my movie: "OK -- so now what can I do?!" You want something to do? Well, you've come to the right place! 'Cause I got 15 things you and I can do right now to fight back and try to fix this very broken system. Here they are: FIVE THINGS WE DEMAND THE PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS DO IMMEDIATELY: 1. Declare a moratorium on all home evictions. Not one more family should be thrown out of their home. The banks must adjust their monthly mortgage payments to be in line with what people's homes are now truly worth -- and what they can afford. Also, it must be stated by law: If you lose your job, you cannot be tossed out of your home. | North Texas Democrats : Notes and News | From Dallas County DemocratsEarly Voting for the November 3, 2009, General Election starts Monday, October 19 and goes through Friday, October 30, in every county in the state. | Collin County Democrats File Criminal Complaints Against Republican Election Official Who Violated State Law
|
Democrats Take Action to Protect Collin County Voters & Uphold State Law
McKINNEY, TX - Three Democratic poll watchers filed criminal complaints with the Collin County District Attorney's office the afternoon of Monday, October 12th against an election judge with a demonstrated disregard for state election law. The complaints were filed against James Middleton of Plano immediately following a vote by the Collin County Commissioners Court Monday afternoon affirming his reappointment as a deputy early voting clerk and election judge for the upcoming November 3rd constitutional amendment election.
The criminal complaints were based on Middleton's unlawful refusal to grant the watchers the access necessary to observe the processing of voters at the Collin College Spring Creek campus during the early voting period of the November 2008 election, as required by Texas Election Code, Sections 33.056 through 33.061. The election law violations he is accused of are each a Class A Misdemeanor, in the same category as a first offense of drunk driving, punishable by up to 2 years in jail or a $4,000 fine or both.

| Dallas Peace Center 23rd annual Peacemaker Awards Dinner
| 23rd annual Peacemaker Awards Dinner, Thursday evening, December 3rd, 2009, at the Double Tree Hotel at Midway and LBJ, same as last year.
The Peacemaker Awards Dinner is the premier annual event of the peacemaking community in Dallas. You don't want to miss this year's celebration. We will be honoring the following people:
Carol Crabtree Donovan - Under Carol's leadership, Peacemakers Incorporated produced the amazing 3rd International Women's Peace Conference in July of 2007, and has grown to be a vital part of the world peace community. This year, working with the University of North Texas, Carol was key in establishing the Castleberry Peace Institute. Because of her role in institutionalizing peace education studies, we honor her as 2009 Peacemaker of the Year.
KinderUSA - This relief organization has focused on the children in the West Bank, Gaza and the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. Its presence in Gaza, employing residents and working though local partners to provide food and fuel, has helped thousands survive the Israeli embargo and December 2008 attacks. KinderUSA will be named 2009 Peacemaking Organization of the Year.
Rita Clarke - One of the most tenured and active members of the Dallas Peace Center, Rita has always been an essential presence in the life of this organization. She is always willing to do what is necessary (usually in the background) to keep the wheels of the DPC turning. We honor her with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
