Separation of church and hate meeting held in Dallas |
I am sorry that in last week's newsletter the link to the article I posted on the protests held outside the Garland Muslim meeting were broken. I will repost all links and links to this week's response events. WATCH: Protesters surround conference in Garland put on by Texas Muslims: 'You are not Americans' Protesters, upset that a Muslim group was holding a conference at a Texas conference center owned by the local school district, showed up last night waving flags and signs telling attendees, "Go home and take Obama with you." On Raw Story read here /On NBC DFW here Protesters picket Islamic conference in Garland on Dallas Morning News here Separation of church and hate' meeting held in Dallas 1/25/2015 The shadow of hate was cast over the Islamic group's meeting. Protestors lined the street yelling that Islam should be feared, and warning of Sharia law. "We were shocked by the depth of the hate speech, the vitriol," said Hadi Jawad. Read / watch here WFAA "Stand with our Muslim Neighbors" An Interfaith Dialogue Sunday, January 25, 4 - 5:30pm Sponsored by Northaven UMC, Dallas Peace Center, Texas Muslim Women Foundation, and the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR-DFW). Alarmed by escalating hate rhetoric aimed at Muslims in North Texas, faith leaders in Dallas have called an interfaith gathering of religious, civic leaders and community members to discuss countermeasures and to offer support to Muslims who call North Texas home. The event will include comments by faith leaders, a panel discussion and live Middle Eastern music. For more information, please contact Senior Pastor, Eric Folkerth at eric@northaven.org. |

Blue In The Heart Of Texas 2 |
January 31: Blue In The Heart Of Texas 2 BITHOT is a biennial summit for Democratic Party activists and volunteers that was first organized in 2013. The first BITHOT attracted several hundred people from Dallas County and surrounding counties. BITHOT's mission is to create a forum for sharing experiences, ideas and plans to empower Democrats in the North Texas region. The BITHOT structure is a one-day summit with plenary sessions in the morning, a lunch break, and afternoon "KnowledgeFest" breakout sessions on specific topics that people can choose according to their interests. BITHOT 2 will focus on reviewing the 2014 election cycle, discussing lessons learned and paths forward for 2016, and presenting preliminary research and outreach plans for 2015. The goal is to help orient activity in Dallas County and other surrounding counties to maximize our effectiveness in 2016. The popular "KnowledgeFest" afternoon program will focus on a number of topics including sessions dedicated to rural and suburban counties, setting up between-cycle research and outreach programs, launching county party internship programs, voter registration (including an official training and opportunity to be deputized for those who are not already deputy registrars), and implementing municipal cycle outreach to encourage voting behavior, among other topics. Major underwriters have covered most of the cost of the event. Your donation of $5 is to cover costs for a catered on-premises lunch. Read the full agenda and register on line at this page here |

| END TEXAS EXECUTIONS! actions planned for January in Dallas |
Texas Schedule to execute THREE people in January! The State of Texas is scheduled to execute three people this month: * On January 21, Arnold Prieto is scheduled to be executed for the 1993 robbery and murders of Rudolfo and Virginia Rodriguez and Paula Moran, a family friend, at the home of the San Antonio couple. Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez were relatives of Prieto's two companions, brothers Guadalupe and Jessie Hernandez. * On January 28, Garcia White is scheduled to be put to death for the 1989 stabbing deaths of Bonita Edwards and her 16-year-old twin daughters, Annette and Bernette, in their Houston home. He was convicted in 1996. * On January 29, Robert Ladd is scheduled to be executed for the 1996 murder of Vicki Ann Garner in Tyler (Smith County). Although at least 10 additional executions are scheduled to take place in Texas by the end of May, records obtained from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) last month revealed the state has only enough pentobarbital - the sole drug used in lethal injections here - for the first five executions of the year. According to TDCJ spokesperson Jason Clark, the department "continues to explore all options including the continued use of Pentobarbital or an alternate drug(s) in the lethal injection process." A coalition of area clergy, groups opposed to the death penalty and individuals will protest the first Texas execution of 2015. When: Nights of executions Jan 21, 28, 29 Where: Mockingbird Bridge at Central Expwy As it gets dark, we will do a light display with the North Texas Light Brigade. Please wear black or dark clothing. For more information follow the link to the Facebook page: END TEXAS EXECUTIONS! | Much Too Responsible Paul Krugman | Much Too Responsible Paul Krugman The United States and Europe have a lot in common. Both are multicultural and democratic; both are immensely wealthy; both possess currencies with global reach. Both, unfortunately, experienced giant housing and credit bubbles between 2000 and 2007, and suffered painful slumps when the bubbles burst. http://nyti.ms/1yVKF6o | |
