Democratic Party of Collin County : Plano Balloon Festival |
Have fun and help inform people about ACA ! Democratic Party of Collin County has a double booth at this year's Plano Balloon Festival -- an event that normally draws 100,000 or more attendees -- and we will have Democratic candidates with us throughout the festival. If you'd like to be included as a volunteer or team captain during the Festival taking place next Friday, September 20th through Sunday September 22nd, please indicate your interest and for when you would like to volunteer by emailing us at balloonfest@collindems.us . New at this year's festival, we have individual tickets and parking passes we can distribute ahead of time to our volunteers, making entry much easier! Please include your postal address when you email that you would like to volunteer, so we may send you your ticket and parking pass. For those of you that are deputy voter registrars, you are needed to help with our voter registration efforts, and we could always use those that have skills creating balloon animals for the kids as well! At our booth this year, we will have information about the Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare"), and the enrollment in the exchanges that begins October 1st. We are excited to help inform the public about this landmark healthcare law that local volunteers at the DPCC headquarters made countless calls to help get passed! We will be setting up our booth on Friday during the day, leading up to the festival's beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, and we have volunteer shifts available through the weekend. Email to sign up for a spot! |
Just What Texas Needed: More Really Bad Doctors |
Rick Perry was down in the Rio Grande Valley yesterday touting his sell-out to really bad doctors and really greedy insurance companies. He calls it tort reform, but what is really is should be called "If a drunk doctor amputates the wrong foot, you're just totally screwed. Hell, we'll probably make you pay him money and double your insurance rates because now you still have that other foot that needs amputating." Ten years ago, we were promised lower insurance rates and better medical care with hot and cold running doctors if we just pass tort reform. So we did. Read on |

| Rich Man's Recovery By PAUL KRUGMAN |
A few days ago, The Times published a report on a society that is being undermined by extreme inequality. This society claims to reward the best and brightest regardless of family background. In practice, however, the children of the wealthy benefit from opportunities and connections unavailable to children of the middle and working classes. And it was clear from the article that the gap between the society's meritocratic ideology and its increasingly oligarchic reality is having a deeply demoralizing effect. read on
