Pentagon investigators are reportedly still searching for Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange, who helped release a classified US military video showing a US helicopter gunship indiscriminately firing on Iraqi civilians. The US military recently arrested Army Specialist Bradley Manning, who may have passed on the video to Wikileaks. Manning's arrest and the hunt for Assange have put the spotlight on the Obama administration's campaign against whistleblowers and leakers of classified information. We speak to Daniel Ellsberg, who's leaking of the Pentagon Papers has made him perhaps the nation's most famous whistleblower; Birgitta Jónsdóttir, a member of the Icelandic Parliament who has collaborated with Wikileaks and drafted a new Icelandic law protecting investigative journalists; and Glenn Greenwald, political and legal blogger for Salon.com.

The Justice Department has told a federal appeals court there was more than enough untainted evidence to justify a trial for the five Blackwater Worldwide guards involved in the 2007 Nisoor Square massacre in Baghdad. In court papers seeking to reinstate criminal charges that were dismissed last year, the Justice Department said the judge "unjustifiably drew the curtain on a meritorious prosecution." This legal development comes amidst a report that Erik Prince, the owner and founder of the notorious private security firm, could be planning a move to the United Arab Emirates, a country that has no extradition treaty with the United States. We speak to independent journalist Jeremy Scahill.

Demanding Hayward's Arrest and Permanent Moratorium on Offshore Drilling
Diane Wilson, a fourth generation shrimper from Texas, confronted BP CEO Tony Hayward during his testimony this morning, to advocate for his arrest as well as a permanent moratorium on offshore drilling. She stood up and shouted "Arrest this man, he is a criminal, his company is stealing the livelihoods of thousands of us in the Gulf and killing our coasts. Tony Hayward should be arrested." Instead, Wilson was arrested and it is unclear when she will be released. Wilson was also arrested in Congress on June 9 for dousing herself with oil to protest BP's dumping on the shrimpers.
Before the hearing Diane made this statement: I came to DC to confront Tony Hayward for the devastation his company has brought to the fishing communities along the gulf. BP is a criminal company that has ignored safety regulations at the health of our oceans and even its own workers. Tony Hayward and BP need to be held accountable for their criminal activities as well as paying every last cent they may have to the families in the Gulf affected by their willful, criminal neglect. Our message to Obama, and Congress: BP must pay to clean up this mess and our government must move to end offshore drilling and move us into a new century of clean energy." She added, "Pouring a jar of fake oil on myself I can get a year in jail. Tony Hayward's company is pouring millions of gallons of oil into the gulf every day. He should be the one going to jail."
Wilson is also a co-founder of the organization CODEPINK Women for Peace. She was in front of BP HQ in Houston, Texas two weeks ago to protest the oilspill and draw attention to BP's legacy of negligence. Our Congressman is at it again. This time, he's providing cover for one of his fellow members of Congress's Big Oil Lover's Caucus--Joe Barton.
By now, you've probably heard that Ennis Congressman Joe Barton apologized to BP for being asked to do the unthinkable: actually pay to clean up the mess they made in the Gulf of Mexico. Well, Michael Burgess agrees with his Big-Oil-loving colleague Joe Barton--and he's taken to the airwaves and print media to defend BP and Barton!
It's time to show Michael Burgess that his indefensible behavior is just that--indefensible. Send a message to Michael Burgess today that it is time for him to go by supporting my campaign.
In this morning's Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Burgess said he was still standing by Barton! Earlier this week, he accused the Obama administration of being "heavy handed" with British Petroleum in a CNN interview and defended Barton to CNN's Dana Bash by saying that Barton's comments were a result of the administration's heavy handed dealings with big business. In a separate interview with Bash on CNN, he came right out and said that he agreed with Barton! He furthered his defense of Barton by complaining about the administration's "heavy handed" dealings with BP on MSNBC.
This is all very ironic, and shows North Texans that Burgess' recent half-hearted attempts to show some kind of action on the behalf of citizens in DISH and elsewhere in the Barnett Shale who have been fighting with oil and gas companies over pollution for years is nothing more than an election-year conversion from a Congressman who has taken thousands of dollars from Big Oil and continues to do their bidding.
It's time to put a stop to this. It's time to send Michael Burgess the message that North Texans are tired of his brand of do-nothing, big oil defending leadership. Your contribution of $10, $25, $50, $100--or whatever you can give--to my campaign will help make that happen.

The cable news network announced Tuesday that O'Donnell, a longtime political analyst for MSNBC who has been a regular substitute for Keith Olbermann, will helm a show that will air weeknights at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET, replacing the repeat of Olbermann's nightly program.
MSNBC President Phil Griffin said O'Donnell fits perfectly with the rest of the network's lineup, calling him "smart, progressive and based in fact."
The move gives MSNBC a solid block of left-leaning hosts in prime time.
Griffin said he concluded O'Donnell was the right pick for the time slot after seeing that he was able to hold much of Olbermann's viewership when he filled in for him during the last year. "He's proven to connect with our audience," Griffin said.

PRESIDENT Obama is not known for wild pronouncements, so it was startling to hear him liken the gulf oil spill to 9/11. Alas, this bold analogy, made in an interview with Roger Simon of Politico, proved a misleading trailer for the main event. In the president's prime-time address a few days later, there was still talk of war, but the ammunition was sanded down to bullet points: "a clean energy future," "a long-term gulf coast restoration plan" and, that most dreaded of perennials, "a national commission." Such generic placeholders, unanimated by details or deadlines, are Washingtonese for "The buck stops elsewhere."

Artist's Statement:
This project documents the effects of capital punishment on families. It is about human rights, accountability, the cycle of violence and forgiveness. I ask the viewer to consider how the "victims" of crime include more than those normally labeled as victims. This work records human spirit, courage, hope and hopelessness in response to the contradictions in our country's attempts to deal with crime.
