Money is not speech." These are fundamental truths that our nation needs to remember -- and add to the Constitution. A rogue Supreme Court seems hellbent on establishing a corporate oligarchy. Congress can't stop it. Every time Congress or state legislatures tries to curb the power of billionaires or mega corporations the Court slaps them down.Citizens United v. FEC, the recent Supreme Court decision that allowed corporations to spend unlimited sums of money to influence elections is only the most recent step in this process. There will be more. But the shocking decision may be sufficient to galvanize a political movement that can change the rules and ensure our democracy. We can save our country by adding eight words to the fundamental law of the land, the US Constitution. "Corporations are not persons." "Money is not speech." Cenk Uygur on the success of The Young Turks America's longest-running online political talk show announces first sponsorship deal- Guardian UK Cenk Uygur is the bombastic host of America's longest-running online political talk show, The Young Turks (TYT for short), and he wants to start a revolution in the US. "I don't mean it like the Tea Party guys who talk about guns and violence, I mean a real political revolution," the former lawyer from New Jersey explains, referring to protests in the US by the Tea Party movement, which supports constitutionally limited government and free markets. TYT, which came to national prominence in 2005 with a 99-hour "Live, On Air Filibuster" during supreme court nomination hearings, is also part of a media revolution. Its filibustering was quickly followed by a decision to launch on YouTube. It now averages 13 million viewers a month. Last week, TYT announced its first sponsorship deal with Netflix, the online film rental company. It has deals with other online businesses, such as godaddy.com, SquareSpace and GameFly, in the pipeline as well. Not shy of self-promotion, Uygur, a fixture on TV in the US, says: "We are a rare online show that is profitable and expanding. We've hired three people in the last five months. The growth and the sponsors were organic. We didn't come in with a lot of money or a big sponsor. We created the show, found the audience, then got the sponsors." read on | Become a Deputy Voter Registrar | | | | | | | Despite a financial crisis for the ages, the catastrophic collapse of a Republican Party crippled by his political legacy, and the highest presidential disapproval rating in the history of American polling, outgoing commander in chief George W. Bush has not completely lost his sense of fun. When Rolling Stone caught up with him at the White House shortly after the holidays for what would turn out to be his final extended sit-down interview as president, the graying but still quite fit Texan had just finished his morning exercycle session in an eagle-emblazoned sweatsuit and was fiddling with a new toy. "They call it a Wii, or a Mee, or something," Bush tells me, smiling as he waves a wandlike plastic device in front of a 54-inch plasma TV in the Treaty Room, a large, brightly lit chamber on the second floor of the Executive Residence that traditionally functions as the president's private study. Hood is a Texas death-row inmate who was convicted of murdering two people in 1990. Long after the conclusion of the trial, it became clear that his trial judge and prosecutor had been secretly involved in a years-long extramarital affair. Because they were both married, they denied the affair-even to Hood's death-penalty lawyers. After the clandestine relationship finally came to light, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals rejected Hood's challenge in two curt sentences last September, finding that his lawyers had waited too long to raise the issue on appeal. How Hood was to have raised the conflict of interest when the existence of the affair was not conclusively established until 2008, when the judge and prosecutor were forced to admit it under oath, is not explained. read on | Michael Moore, VIDEO: "Deport Wall Street" Larry King, CNN | Michael Moore, VIDEO: "Deport Wall Street" Larry King, CNN "... any illegal immigrant they catch in Arizona, they should let him keep doing his job because he's adding to the economy. It is a direct and blatant attack on the Latino community. The bill signed into law this week by Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is a major setback in the fight for equality and civil rights. Your appearance, your clothes, your language, your location, your activities or anything that may trigger suspicion is now grounds for detention. So in response to this heinous bill, we decided to send the Arizona governor and the state legislature a challenge: Answer this question - Do I Look "Illegal"? Latino or not, let us stand together and fight back against these forces of racism. We have produced T-shirts to tell the Arizona government that we will not stand idle as they trump the basic civil rights of any minority. Your contribution of $15 will not only get you one of the T-Shirts but will also allow Brave New Foundation's Cuéntame to produce a series of videos and actions that will expose the Arizona government for their attempt to institutionalize a Latino persecution. GET THE T-SHIRT TODAY! We have also launched a pledge to boycott the state of Arizona until this law is stricken down.
