Dear nancy,

Good Afternoon!

Before elections chop wood, carry water. After elections chop wood, carry water.
I know I don't have to tell you guys this ...
Check out the important vigils and attend a Celebration ( yes party!) this week and then have a drink or maybe two and we'll get back to chopping wood next week!

I will post a few must read articles but it's time to honestly look at what works and what doesn't .

**Before Enlightenment chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment chop wood, carry water. Zen Proverb

Thanks,
Nancy Cunningham

There's no point in sugar-coating it--the election results are a bummer. Right now, extremists in Congress are planning an all out attack on women's rights--everything from our right to reproductive health care to equal pay for equal work. What's coming down the pike isn't going to be pretty.

But we've got a secret weapon--all of us. That's why UltraViolet members in your area are planning a Party for a Purpose on November 15th.

Labor groups in Dallas : Vigil for Construction Workers' Right to Rest

Vigil for Construction Workers' Right to Rest

On September 3rd, Dallas City Council said it would take action on a rest break ordinance within 60 days. Those 60 days are up. Construction workers and their families cannot wait any longer for City Council to act for workers' safety.

On Wednesday, November 12th, construction workers, their families, and their supporters will remind City Council of the hard realities that workers face ever day. With no breaks for rest or water, construction workers risk their safety and their lives on the job.

It is time for City Council to honor the men and women who build Dallas and the family members that depend on them. It is time for all workers to be treated with dignity and respect.

Join us for a day of action. Workers, faith headers, and allies will all call on City Council to value the humanity of construction workers.

Come, show your support, and stand with the working families of Dallas.

Death by Typo

The Latest Frivolous Attack on Obamacare

by Paul Krugman

My parents used to own a small house with a large backyard, in which my mother cultivated a beautiful garden. At some point, however - I don't remember why - my father looked at the official deed defining their property, and received a shock. According to the text, the Krugman lot wasn't a rough rectangle; it was a triangle more than a hundred feet long but only around a yard wide at the base.

Social Justice Film Festival: What would Jesus buy Morgan Spurlock and Reverend Billy

The First Tuesday Social Justice Film Festival

CoSponsored by the Dallas Peace Center

At 7:00pm on the First Tuesday of each month the UUCOC hosts free screenings of socially relevant films followed by a (usually intense) discussion of actions we can take. December 2nd, 2014:

First Tuesday Social Justice Film Festival is showing What Would Jesus Buy? Morgan Spurlock's feature about Reverend Billy. If you have never seen the good Reverend, he is interesting. He preaches against consumerism with great comedy and gospel singers. Oh, and part of it was shot in Dallas. This is a fitting way to start the holiday season.

When Government Succeeds

By Paul Krugman

The great American Ebola freakout of 2014 seems to be over. The disease is still ravaging Africa, and as with any epidemic, there's always a risk of a renewed outbreak. But there haven't been any new U.S. cases for a while, and popular anxiety is fading fast.

Before we move on, however, let's try to learn something from the panic.
