Unknown Known opens Angelika ( Donald Rumsfeld)

In THE UNKNOWN KNOWN, Oscar winning filmmaker Errol Morris (THE FOG OF WAR) offers a mesmerizing portrait of Donald Rumsfeld, the former US Secretary of Defense and one of the key architects of the Iraq War. Over multiple interviews, Rumsfeld and Morris engage in a verbal duel over recent history and even the meaning of language, digging into Rumsfeld's "snowflakes," the tens of thousands of memos he composed as a congressman and advisor to four different presidents. These memos provide a window onto history-not history as it actually happened, but history as Rumsfeld wants us to see it. Read Chris Vognar's feature from the Toronto International Film Festival.

Unicef Tap Project

UNICEF Tap Project is working to help the 768 million people around the world without access to clean water. This year you can help by taking a challenge to give up access to something far less vital than water-your cell phone.

Thanks for your support during World Water Month. Together people have gone over 200 million minutes without their phones to help children in need of clean water. Time donations are now inactive, but you can still go without your phone and donate to support the UNICEF Tap Project.

I think they can by Jim Hightower

Like that little choo-choo in the classic children's book "The Little Engine that Could," Moral Monday is the little movement that says, "I think I can" and keeps chugging up the hill.

This new progressive coalition became a full-throttle citizen uprising in North Carolina early last year.

Fueled by rising public outrage at the rampant right-wing extremism of the Republican-run state government, a few advocates for workers, civil rights, and other people's issues went inside North Carolina's state capitol on a Monday in April.

Led by Rev. William Barber, head of the North Carolina NAACP, they literally put their bodies on the line in protest of the GOP's reckless crusade to turn the state into a privatized utopia for unfettered corporate greed and tea party wackiness.

Oligarchs and Money

by

Paul Krugman

Econonerds eagerly await each new edition of the International Monetary Fund's World Economic Outlook. Never mind the forecasts, what we're waiting for are the analytical chapters, which are always interesting and even provocative. This latest report is no exception. In particular, Chapter 3 - although billed as an analysis of trends in real (inflation-adjusted) interest rates - in effect makes a compelling case for raising inflation targets above 2 percent, the current norm in advanced countries.
