Dear nancy,

Good Afternoon!

Now that it's getting cooler .. more events are being planned. Attend the Gasland II screening and maybe help register voters!

Make sure you are involved with a Democratic club or group - it can be a group near your home on work or attend a group with a family member but get "plugged in " somewhere. We will need all hands on deck for the 2014 election and your help and input will be needed !

Do some Tweeting to ALEC corporate sponsors and follow me @NTXProgressive and say Hi! See ya in the twitterverse.

Thanks,
Nancy Cunningham

Imagining Wendy Davis' First Week on the Campaign Trail -Texas Tribune

While we won't know for sure for a couple of weeks, political observers say state Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth, appears likely to run for governor. And that got us wondering: How might she begin her campaign in a state that hasn't elected a Democrat statewide in decades? Ben Philpott of KUT News and the Tribune takes us into the future with this envisioning of Davis' first days on the campaign trail.

Davis held her campaign kickoff on a field beside I M Terrell Elementary in Fort Worth. The location gave Davis a chance to campaign on the need to invest in state infrastructure, with the school on one side of her and Interstate 30 on the other. The theme of her opening speech: bringing Texans together.

 Texas: The Conservative Dystopia

If you live in the Maryland or Washington, D.C. area, you've probably seen ads encouraging businesses to move to places like Texas from places like Maryland over the past few weeks.

In what looks like a warm-up for another presidential run, Republican Texas Governor Rick Perry has started
an ad campaign in the home state of another potential 2016 candidate, Democratic Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley.

Free to Be Hungry

By PAUL KRUGMAN

The word "freedom" looms large in modern conservative rhetoric. Lobbying groups are given names like FreedomWorks; health reform is denounced not just for its cost but as an assault on, yes, freedom. Oh, and remember when we were supposed to refer to pommes frites as "freedom fries"?

The right's definition of freedom, however, isn't one that, say, F.D.R. would recognize. In particular, the third of his famous Four Freedoms - freedom from want - seems to have been turned on its head. Conservatives seem, in particular, to believe that freedom's just another word for not enough to eat.

Governor Deval Patrick & TDP Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa

Dallas Fundraiser for the Texas Democratic Party Sept. 28

You might think there's not much common ground between a Texas Democrat and a Massachusetts Democrat. But you'd be wrong.

Governor Deval Patrick knows something about taking back a governorship from years of Republican control. (Yes, Massachusetts had Republican governors for 16 years before Patrick won office!) He knows how important it is to invest in improving public education for all. And he ran an inspirational, grassroots campaign for governor that mobilized thousands to fight for better leadership in their state.

Former Texas Board of Education chair argues for 'final blow' to evolution studies

Don McLeroy Claims The Theory of Evolution Disproves Itself

The former chair of the Texas State Board of Education appeared at a board meeting this week to argue in favor of a new science textbooks he hoped would strike "the final blow" to studying evolution.

"Even though these biology books are full of unsubstantiated, dogmatic statements supporting evolution, there's still two major reasons why you should adopt these books," Don McLeroy told board members at a hearing on Tuesday. "First, by so doing, you will strike the final blow to the teaching of evolution."
